ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY*

The Education Trust (Ed Trust) seeks a Race and Disability Equity Fellow. The Fellow will join a staff committed to fulfilling our mission of closing opportunity gaps that disproportionately affect students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.

The Fellow will support a new body of work focused on students with disabilities from birth through high school in U.S. education settings with particular focus on students of color with disabilities. This position will complete research and analysis to directly inform Ed Trust’s agenda and policy priorities as it relates to advocating for students with disabilities.

Ed Trust is committed to advancing policies and practices to dismantle the racial and economic barriers embedded in the U.S. education system. Through our research and advocacy, Ed Trust improves equity in education from preschool through college, engages diverse communities dedicated to equity and justice, and increases political and public will to build an education system where all students will thrive.

This fellowship begins in January and goes through August, with a possible option to extend. The role is based in our Washington, DC office and can be fully remote. The Fellow reports to a Senior Associate of P-12 Research.

ABO*UT THE ROLE

The responsibilities and objectives for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

Complete a literature review on the intersection of racial equity and the education of students with disabilities from preschool through high school

• Complete a landscape scan of policy and advocacy organizations working on this topic
• Support the development of Ed Trust’s agenda in the area of disability equity in education
• Read, evaluate, and summarize research related to Ed Trust’s policy and advocacy agenda
• Support Ed Trust in establishing an advisory committee of researchers, scholars, experts in the field, and directly impacted students and families to inform this work
• Monitor federal and state legislation and/or policy development

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE*

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

At least a bachelor’s degree

• Enrollment in a graduate degree program in special education policy or a related field
• Proficiency with MS Office products including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

COMPENSATION*

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $19-$22/hour for graduate-level students and $23-$28/hour for PhD-level students, commensurate with experience. Fellows also receive sick leave benefits.
