Job overview

The Electronic Deposition Materials (EDM) division of PST is a global leader in the development, manufacturing, and supply of high-performance Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) sputtering targets to the semiconductor industry. With facilities in the USA, France, and Korea, the EDM business is a fast-paced, dynamic, and global organization.

Manufacturing operations in the EDM Orangeburg facility include melting, alloying, and casting of high purity materials. Metal working operations such as forging, cutting and swaging, hot and cold rolling, upsetting, annealing etc. are achieved through a combination of in-house operations and close collaboration with sub-contractors. The facility also maintains operations associated with the manufacture of PVD sputtering targets through powder metallurgy including a high-temperature vacuum hot-pressing operation. Finishing operations such as manual and CNC machining, bonding, polishing, and cleaning are also an important part of the Orangeburg operations.

We are seeking candidates with appropriate qualifications and, or experience to join the R&D and Engineering teams in Orangeburg, NY, specifically, we are seeking R&D Technologists. The ideal candidate will work under the guidance of a Sr. R&D professional to support our Engineering and Operations areas.

Primary responsibilities

• Provide technical support to senior technology staff working to develop new products and scaling-up manufacturing processes for existing products. While under supervision, R&D technologists are primarily responsible for:
  • Operating equipment in the R&D labs (optical microscopes, SEM, X-ray, furnaces, lab-scale melting, casting, hot-pressing etc.)
  • Planning and executing experiments and small batch production.
  • Establishing metrology of samples.
  • Maintaining equipment and housekeeping within the work environment
  • Support current and new safety initiatives/policies
• High performing R&D Technologists will demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Collaboration cross-functionally between operations, engineering, quality departments. Provides technical support for both internal teams and external customers.
  • Demonstrates a results-orientated disposition in a team environment responsible for the development and implementation of practical solutions.
  • Identifies and communicate technical challenges. Make recommendations through oral presentations and formal reports.
  
  

Required qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent with 5 plus years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Effective communication skills, results orientated attitude, ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams. Self-starter, enjoys working under minimal supervision
• Proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Interested in learning in a very technical environment
• Ability to cross-train within other areas of the plant
• Flexibility to travel to other Electronic Deposition Materials locations, customer, suppliers and vendor sites

Preferred qualifications

• Associates degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Experience and knowledge of specialty metal manufacturing processes such as vacuum melting, metal powder processing, metal working, precision machining etc.
• Experience and/or know-how with data acquisition, data processing, digitization and automation will be a differentiator.
