The R&D Manager will lead the Kimberly-Clark Professional Global R&D team responsible for executing large scale supplier qualifications, innovation, and renovation plans within the skincare category. This leader will be responsible for working with the Global and NA category leaders on providing a cadence of brand-led innovation and renovation product launches across the globe enabling Kimberly-Clark Professional to remain differentiated in the marketplace along with devoting team time to business support and brand maintenance needs as directed by the business. This role reports to the Sr. R&D Manager, Global Product Development.

The Global R&D Manager will provide leadership to create and manage the business support and innovation/renovation pipeline across the globe, collaborating with business partners to initiate technical projects that improve business results and create enduring competitive advantage. They will manage the global project portfolio and use the proper innovation and quality/compliance processes effectively to ensure technical resources are appropriately deployed.

This position requires an individual who has working knowledge of the skincare industry and regulated product processes, strong collaborative skills, a proven history of success in driving impactful business solutions based on customer insights and is a champion of change. Advanced stakeholder management skills are needed for success.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborating across the organization to identify, scope and prioritize work to deliver business goals.
  • Developing and managing the global skincare innovation portfolio, ensuring adherence to global quality/regulatory requirements within the Innovation Management Framework.
  • Managing stakeholder expectations across the globe to drive clarity of work and execution.
  • Leading a team of engineers with excellence, focusing on supplying clear work direction and talent building opportunities to direct reports.
  • Work effectively with the Quality, Product Safety, Regulatory, and ECM/Product Supply teams to ensure solutions are on target with business plans and priorities.
  • Develop strong relationships with other R&D Teams to ensure consistency of practice and leverage the business scale.
  • Leads and develops talent of 4 to 6 direct reports. Manages structure and flow of resources to maximize resources and investment. Supplies direct and indirect leadership throughout the Global R&D organization including talent and competency development.
  • Supports the development and drives implementation Global Innovation, Technology, and Intellectual Property Strategy to deliver a robust pipeline, as the primary driver of growth in our Strategic Business Plan over the next 3 years.
  • Indirectly manages internal customers to ensure Global business plans are met with regards to products and technology.
  • Leads the Design Management process for the Global Skincare Category ensuring proper use of Design Controls and Change Control to ensure compliance with KC standards and product development excellence.
  • Manages Global R&D budget for skincare category.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related highly technical discipline required. Skincare, Formulated, or Regulated Product Development experience preferred.
  • 12 years of prior relevant technical experience in product development, program management, innovation strategy, and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience driving clarity in developing and delivering value propositions for technical programs.
  • Proven ability to successfully leading large project teams or complex program portfolios.
  • Track record of continuous improvement and transformational change.
  • Experience building strong differentiated innovation pipelines within multiple product categories.
  • Relevant experience in regulated products categories with global regulatory experience preferred.
  • Proven experience of strategy development, business case development and use of portfolio management and stage gate process to drive ROI and a robust pipeline.
  • At least one cross-functional experience highly preferred.
