Overview

The Chemist I supports researching raw materials and developing formulations for professional flooring industry, designing and executing series of tests using methods defined in ASTM, ANSI and ISO standards. The projects of product development will require close cooperation with various departments: quality control, product management, product safety and technical application teams in order to achieve the final,
well-polished formulation. Training will be provided to develop all necessary skills

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

• Development of formulations for cementitious ceramic tile adhesives to meet design targets.
• Main procedures involve handling and testing various materials, documentation and communication of test results, decision making and reporting based on data collected over a period of time. These processes are expected to be conducted in a timely and efficient manner.
• Follow Step-by-step procedures (standards of practice) and test methods that are provided by the company. Training will be provided until the methods and processes are mastered.
• Establish a personal priority list for all assigned activities.
• Document data obtained during all testing activities using provided platforms.
• Evaluate data to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. Communicate significant issues or developments identified during testing activities.
• Plan your work in accordance to production schedule and raw material deliveries, and also any specific laboratory tasks. Provide feedback immediately if concerned that the full daily activity list cannot be completed (lack of time or resources).
• Participate in R&D activities which will be defined on a case-by-case basis.
• Understand the level of communication required for each issue (verbal, written). Communicate issues using the right level based on priority and impact on other processes in the plant / company.
• Proactively communicate with involved parties (production, warehouse, R&D, suppliers, management) to coordinate and resolve quality-related problems or if required to close outstanding tasks.
• Keep track of the latest standards and new developments in testing and examination methods of processes, materials, and products.
• Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment by properly handling and storing materials, samples, tools and equipment.

Education, Licensing and Certifications

• Bachelors degree in Chemistry or closely related field

• Ability to work in a laboratory in a safe and organized manner
• Excellent problem solving skills, understanding of the scientific method
• A goal-driven attitude while working autonomously or in a team

  • TSCA plus latest amendments
  • Reporting duties (CDR, TSCA, polymer exemption)

  • US-GHS (HCS 2012), label elements and basic classification rules
  • HMIS / NFPA rating
  • Classification and labeling of Hazardous Materials (DOT)
• Analytical - processes large amounts of structured data; collects and categorizes data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs work flows and procedures.
