What to Expect
The Quality Engineer, General Assembly will work as a member of Tesla’s Quality organization. The primary objective of this role is to support the production of high-quality electric vehicles through the continual improvement of process and product quality and the systems that surround them. The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at their core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, and have the personal drive and stamina for relentless, continual improvement (personally and professionally).
What You’ll Do
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions
  • Establish and maintain quality performance metrics
  • Lead the Chassis team for Quality Organization
  • Perform technical root-cause analysis of vehicle systems (Chassis, torque failures, brake system, etc.)
  • Coordinate and manage complex and continually changing chassis system specifications and deviations
  • Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes
  • Drive containment and corrective actions implementation into manufacturing line / design / supplier
  • Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product
  • Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or equivalent experience required. Mechanical; Electrical, Mechatronic; Power Electronics, Electronic or equivalent relevant experience
  • Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis / Manufacturing / Quality / Service in consumer electronics or automotive
  • Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc
  • For entry level candidates, Co-ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE; Solar vehicle
  • The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside
  • Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
  • Programming Languages & Tools: SQL, Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
  • Ability, willingness to travel domestically, and internationally (5% to 10%)
  • Must be detail oriented, effectively handle multiple priorities, have a strong quality mindset and have the ability to meet tight deadlines
