QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST

I. General Summary:
To plan, develop, and implement quality systems to ensure plant parts meet or exceed customer expectations. Responsible for investigating, analyzing, containing, and correcting quality problems related to final customer products. Manage and maintain quality assurance documents including quality assurance plan, Supplier Quality Assurance Manual (SQAM), Quality Assurance Standards (QAS), Process Flow, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Manufacturing Quality Chart/Control Plan (MQC/CP), and Initial Sample Inspection Report (ISIR). Develop, manage and maintain quality management system (e.g.,ISO 9000/01, IATF 16949, AS 9000) based procedures and instructions.

II. Essential Job Functions:
  • Implement and maintain compliance of ISO 14000:2004 and TS16949 or other certification requirements.
  • Maintain TS and ISO certification.
  • Responsible for conducting audits to ensure that all activities are in compliance with the company quality management systems work standards and that all activities meet or exceed all business goals, customer requirements and defined ISO QMS and TS procedures.
  • Responsible for scheduling and conducting internal quality assurance conformance and special process audits.
  • Responsible for documentation of auditing activities.
  • Develop corrective and preventive action plans and conduct follow up audits as required.
  • Support and develop documentation to support customer and internal requirements.
  • Analyze processes for continuous improvements and failure modes.
  • Negotiate appropriate quality levels with customers.
  • Analyze processes for stability and capability.
  • Maintain both supplier and customer quality standards.
  • Report and present quality information including quality improvement plans.
  • Develop countermeasure activities for quality issues.
  • Interpret company policies to team members and enforces safety regulations.
  • Responsible for overall quality team performance.
  • Perform quality audits.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, production, management and all team members.
  • Analyze in-process defects, investigate root cause, and develop countermeasures.

III. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Education:
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
  • 2 to 4 years direct experience with QMS, ISO14001:2004, TS16949 or other industry recognized certified programs.
  • Quality control program launch experience for new programs preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, tooling, quality control methods, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Experience with Toyota launch systems and requirements preferred.
  • Welding experience for arc, spot, and projection welding preferred.
  • Injection Plastics and Urethane process experience preferred.
  • Experience with measurement skill and knowledge or various measuring equipment preferred.
  • Previous exposure to a multifunctional office environment preferred.
Personal/Technical Skills:
  • Working knowledge of quality audit techniques.
  • Must be trusted with confidential data.
  • General understanding and practical work experience with automotive quality systems and processes.
  • General understanding and working knowledge of inspection standards and check fixtures.
  • Must be able to work a fixed or rotating shift schedule, including daily or weekend overtime.
  • Thorough understanding of company product, trade terminology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes including material controls, work flow, scheduling, kanban, machine operation, and company policies as standards.
  • Basic math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate problem solving and resolution.
  • Ability work with a dynamic team and demanding customer(s).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural work environment.
  • Ability to work with multiple departments and prioritize activities.
  • Ability to read instruction manuals, blue prints, and specifications.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and perform functions of assigned areas.
  • Ability to maintain on call flexibility to control abnormal conditions.
  • Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing production environment.
  • Active listener with effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task, handle diversity, and provide leadership through problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of the organization in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt available skills and equipment to respond to unforeseen demands and/or problems.
  • Ability to implement plans to control and maintain safety, quality, 5S, cost, and efficiency for assigned areas.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes, company products, trade technology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment, and machine operation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering documents such as automotive drawings (component, assembly, and equipment), technical standards, design specifications, general tolerances, critical characteristics, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), Engineering Change Instructions (ECI), Prototype Parts Requests (PPR), and color instructions.
  • General understanding of the Toyota Supplier Quality Assurance Manual (SQAM) and Toyota Production System (TPS) is preferred.
  • Strong organization, time management, and planning skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to teach team leaders and team members in basic fundamental skills and facilitate Job Instruction Training (JIT).
Language Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Computer/Software:
  • Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Lotus Notes/Outlook, Internet, etc.).

IV. Work Environment/Conditions:

Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level.

Plant: Various types of manufacturing environments.
  • Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level.
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, Kevlar sleeves, hearing protection, etc. may be required in designated engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas. Personal attire standards may apply.
  • Involves moderate or occasional presence of some slightly disagreeable conditions, i.e., cold, dust, heat, odor, etc.

Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

V. Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing and is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
