Central Penn College has openings for full-time Public Safety Officer positions. These positions are responsible for providing the College and its constituents with a ready response, a commitment to quality services and exceptional customer service. This is a Full-Time position on 3rd shift. Must be willing to work 3rd shift (overnights)
Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Patrol the property of Central Penn College while providing a visible and uniformed presence.
• Actively participate in crime prevention and community policing activities. Be mindful of current crime trends on and around the campus grounds and take appropriate action to deter such activity as per training.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls for service, many of which are unique to a campus environment.
• Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic and enforce campus parking regulations.
• Conduct investigations and submit clear and concise incident reports.
• Perform general security services, including locking and unlocking buildings, rooms, laboratories, etc. Assist students who require escorts on and around the campus property.
• Practice safe work habits including, but not limited to, use of personal protective equipment, proper lifting techniques and reporting of unsafe situations.
• Monitor closed circuit television (CCTV), respond to audible and silent alarms, and maintain access control systems. Create campus identification cards with appropriate access control permissions.
• On occasion, will be required to work operational and special event assignments.
• Use various computers and other equipment as a routine function of this position.

Public Safety Officers must be supportive of multi-cultural and inclusivity initiatives; understand the need to build trust, create relationships, and engage community members; and recognize the impact of emotional intelligence, non-verbal communication, and empathetic listening.
Job Requirement

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred
• Two - three years of experience in public safety, security, or related field; experience in college setting is a plus, as is Act 235 certification
• Knowledge of security principles and procedures
• Student-centered customer service skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information
• Ability to interact well and maintain strong, professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, the community, and local law enforcement agencies.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Word and Excel
• Must be 21 years of age and be able to work any shift and be available to work weekends and holidays, as needed.
• Must be able to successfully complete all legal, college, and department training requirements, to include, but not limited to, passing required tests and certifications within established timeline.
• Possess valid PA driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in a combination of indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
• Must be able to stand, bend, and walk unassisted for up to 8 hours.
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairways in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
