The SCORE Association is seeking a public relations specialist to support our public relations and media relations efforts to amplify and promote our services and brand. SCORE has a healthy and robust media presence, earning an average of 750 local or national media mentions each month. Now, we are seeking someone to help us level-up our outreach and impact.

The public relations specialist will provide support in the following areas: press release creation and distribution, blog/article writing, media pitching and response, research for speeches, annual reports, and other communications. The ideal candidate possesses superior writing, communication, and organizational skills as well as a sharp eye for accuracy, syntax, grammar and aesthetics. They should also be highly organized and passionate about increasing positive awareness of SCORE.

We’re looking for a self-starter, proactive problem solver and detail-oriented team player. They should be a true people person, poised under fast-paced pressure and have a relentlessly positive, flexible, 'whatever it takes' attitude.
Salary Range: $65,000 – 70,000
This is a full-time, exempt, remote position. This job can be done remotely from one of the following states: CO, DC, FL, IL, LA, MD, MI, NY, OH, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI

Responsibilities*

  • Writes and pitches press releases, reports, and SCORE stories to reporters/editors
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with reporters/editors from local and national media outlets
  • Manages media mentor experts and client spokespeople databases
  • Responds to inbound media requests and media forum inquiries
  • Provides editing and execution of SCORE Annual Report and Megaphone of Main Street data reports
  • Writes brand/campaign copy, blogs, articles, speeches, etc., for SCORE initiatives and spokespeople
  • Applies quality assurance measures to ensure flawless execution and delivery
  • Collaborates with corporate sponsors on press releases and media outreach
  • Tracks, measures, and analyzes public relations data and media metrics via Cision and PR Newswire
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for increasing SCORE’s public visibility, process improvement, and outreach
  • Coordinates work with outside vendors (i.e., PR firm, graphic designer) on significant campaigns
  • Provides media training for internal and external teams
  • Consults and advises media best practices to SCORE staff, mentors, and volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements*

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in media relations and/or public relations field
  • Proficiency in using media monitoring software (e.g., Cision, Meltwater ) and PR Newswire press release distribution software
  • Basic understanding of SEO
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use data and judgment to inform decisions
  • Superior writing, copywriting, and editing skills
  • Creative intuition for developing messaging and design that represent the SCORE brand and resonate with our audience
  • Manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Self-starter with a drive to learn and the ability to work independently or collaboratively
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and complete tasks on time with strong attention to detail
