Future Salary Increases

** July 2023 - 4.33% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board +1.58 % Market Increase)

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $64,688.00 ANNUALLY. COUNTY EMPLOYEES ARE SUBJECT TO THE COUNTY PROMOTION RULE FOR STEP PLACEMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH COMP ORD 1.3.5.

Public Outreach Specialists are responsible for planning, preparing and implementing marketing efforts of County departments. Incumbents will advise County departments on public outreach strategies and techniques and inform the public of activities and services provided by County departments. Incumbents are responsible for person-to-person outreach and traditional marketing techniques.

This position will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing content strategies for both the central and branch social media accounts. This includes analyzing engagement data, identifying trends in customer interactions, planning digital campaigns to build community engagement, and overseeing interactions with the public.


This position works with and assists the marketing manager in identifying and developing communication and promotion opportunities and will develop, write, and submit various communication pieces as determined by the Learning, Marketing & Engagement (LME) leadership and library management.

Overall goal: To develop, implement and coordinate marketing, and communications programs and strategies; strengthen the social media reach; coordinate and ensure Intranet and Internet websites and other materials are accurate and up to date; proactively address issues and misinformation through communication.

HIRING TIMELINE & DATES:
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins in May 2023. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in journalism, telecommunications, English, or a closely related field; OR,
2. Two (2) years of full-time experience writing professional news and feature articles, developing and producing commercial audio or video presentations, or working directly in the field of media relations.
