Goodhue County Health & Human Services is currently seeking applicants for a full-time (40 hours per week) vacancy for a Public Health Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Starting minimal pay, depending on qualifications for PHN is $28.96/hour, for RN is $27.61. Full time 40 hours per week The County's comprehensive benefit package includes medical and dental insurance, health savings account, employer paid life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plan, tax-deferred compensation, generous vacation and sick leave and 12 paid holidays per year. We are seeking a qualified nurse to join our Family Health Division. Work within the Family Health Division is intended to strengthen and preserve the health of individuals and families. The focus is on support, prevention, and education to promote and maintain a healthy family unit. This position works within and manages a variety of programs. Program areas include: Family Home Visiting, the Follow Along Program (FAP), Child and Teen Checkups (CTC), and Women Infants and Children (WIC) and may have some some Disease Prevention and Control duties.

Examples of Duties

• Assesses client's needs and the level of service required and coordinates service providers.
• Provides direct skilled nursing service to clients as recommended by physician.
• Uncovers health problems through observation, interviews and analysis of records and initiates appropriate action.
• Teaches the client basic principles of healthful living applying information from related fields such as nutrition, dental hygiene, safety, etc.
• Teaches and supervises family members and auxiliary nursing personnel proper nursing and physical therapy care of the client as directed by physicians.
• Communicates/consults with the physician, nursing team, home health aides, social worker, and other involved caregivers to coordinate health care plans to meet client needs.
• Performs diagnostic tests as authorized and interprets the findings to client and/or families.
• Instructs caregivers to recognize early signs of disease and deviations from normal health patterns.
• Assists client in obtaining medical supplies and establishes appropriate client service fees.
• Maintains case file documentation.
• Provides school health services to assigned schools.
• Provides input in program planning, the development of agency goals and the evaluation of the agency's programs and policies.
• Participates on pre-admission screening teams, community child protection teams, etc.
• Encourages community development by initiating or participating in action to address specific community needs.
• Represents the Public Health Department by addressing various public and private organizations, community groups, and members of the general public concerning policies, programs, responsibilities and activities to inform and elicit community support.
• May be assigned to work in specific public health program areas, such as WIC, MCH, EPS, etc.
• Provide in-service education to personal care attendants, home health aides, and housekeeping personnel.
• May supervise and evaluate personal care attendants, home health aides, and housekeepers.

Minimum Qualifications

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE:
Certification as a public health nurse in Minnesota and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota.

OR

REGISTERED NURSE:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota.

Goodhue County Preferred Qualifications

• 
  Associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or diploma from a school of nursing accredited by the National League of Nursing
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Registration as a Public Health Nurse and one year of experience in public health nursing or highly related area preferred.

Examination Process

The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process. You must read the questions carefully, answer truthfully, and include any experience claimed in your answers to the supplemental questions in the "work experience" section of your application. Any experience claimed in your answers to the supplemental questions but not included in the Work Experience section of you application will not be credited.You will be asked to verify your degree with official transcripts upon hire.
