Job Description

The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is currently seeking multiple qualified candidates who are looking to work in a diverse, exciting, and fast paced work environment and have a desire to help Loudoun County residents obtain public benefits and gain self-sufficiency.

These positions are responsible for determining eligibility for Public Assistance Programs, to include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicaid and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. by conducting interviews with applicants, requesting appropriate documentation, and applying applicable policy. These positions also maintain caseloads and evaluate continued eligibility for those approved for these programs. These positions are also responsible for taking timely action on reported changes and completing thorough case documentation. The ideal candidates would be assigned caseloads containing two or more of the Public Assistance Programs listed.

The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Knowledge of automated systems related to program area and job role.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of family, children, and adult public assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of interviewing processes.
  • Skill in conducting interviews to gather pertinent information related to the determination of eligibility for public assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of casework theory and practice.
  • Skill in providing appropriate and effective case management for those applying for or receiving public assistance programs.
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, co-workers, staff, other professionals, officials, and the public.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply policy appropriately in determining eligibility.
  • Ability to apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situation in a professional and discrete manner.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

Associate degree and three (3) years of directly related experience in a customer service or social/human services setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Public Benefits policy knowledge and experience processing SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF applications and renewals.

Special Requirements

  • These positions will be located at our Leesburg office and may be assigned and required to work at an alternate work site(s) to carry out duties that support the needs of the County.
  • In addition, you must be available for duty beyond the normal workday (8:30am -5:00pm), which includes nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position for the assigned department.
  • The successful candidate may be required to perform work that involves crisis situations and is required to make decisions involving people, resources, and property.
  • This position has limited telework opportunity after 90 days with successful evaluation of performance.

Successful candidate will pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS, and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
