The psychotherapist trainee works under the supervision of a licensed and system credentialed supervisor, conducts diagnostic assessments and determines clinical interventions, facilitates therapy, treatment planning, patient education, and manages each patient throughout the course of care. They work collaboratively within an academic healthcare system and employ evidence-based practices to manage the diverse behavioral health needs of the clinic population. As a specialty mental health provider, psychotherapist trainees are uniquely suited to support the primary care team and patients through co-located services and a shared electronic health record. We develop innovative care models to support a broad patient population with complex medical and behavioral health conditions. This position is a split between 80% telehealth delivery and 20% in-person care.

Responsibilities/Job Description:
A trainee-level outpatient clinic therapist is located at one of our five centrally located hub sites. They work collaboratively within an academic healthcare system. Outpatient Clinic Psychotherapists employ evidence-based practices to manage the diverse behavioral health needs of the clinic population. As a specialty mental health provider, our clinic psychotherapists are uniquely suited to support the primary care team and patients through co-located service and a shared electronic health record. We develop innovative care models to support a broad patient population with complex medical and behavioral health conditions. We comply with Managed Care requirements for treatment authorizations. Therapists conduct diagnostic assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide individuals, couples, family, and group therapy for all ages. The position is a split between 80% telehealth delivery and 20% in-person care.
Demonstrates clinical competence in diagnostic assessment, risk assessment, evaluation, treatment planning and implementation processes.
Engages in ethical practice and adheres to practice standards set by the licensing board.
  • Coordinates/facilitates the development of treatment plan by collaborating with patient, family and interdisciplinary team.
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, clinical diagnosis, level of functioning and other relevant needs.
  • Implements, reassesses and adjust treatment plan as necessary.
Demonstrates clinical competence to assess individual patient needs.
Demonstrates clinical competence in disposition planning.
  • Interfaces with government agencies such as court, ombudsmen, county services if required.
  • Completes referral process for recommended levels of care and assessment.
  • Communicates to other providers in the community when appropriate.
  • Communicates frequently and effectively with an interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
  • Documentation is thorough, timely, clinically appropriate, and meets regulatory requirements.
Demonstrates competence in developing a clinically relevant transition/discharge plan.
  • Develops discharge plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, clinical diagnosis and level of functioning and other relevant needs.
  • Provides individual, couples and family therapy with a generalist approach.
Demonstrates the ability to advance evidence based practice by utilizing standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery.
Incorporates data and information into practice to continually improve care and practice so that patient outcomes are enhanced.
Promotes a culture of evidence based practice by participation in any of, but not limited to, the following activities:
  • Utilizing evidence based policies in clinical practice
  • Attends and participates in learning opportunities about evidence based practice
  • Attends clinical supervision and case consultation
  • Literature review
Participates in case consultation and clinical supervision per board-approved practice and licensure requirements.
Qualifications:
Required
Education
Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, or closely related field
Experience
Completion of clinical education and internship as required by graduate program
License/Certification/Registration
Be licensed or provisionally licensed by the MN Board of Social Work as an LGSW, or working toward independent licensure per board requirements for closely related fields

Preferred
Child/adolescent and adult experience
Knowledge of health conditions and common co-morbidities
Knowledge of the continuum of behavioral health care services (i.e., within surrounding communities)
Experience with EPIC
Experience working with people managing multiple environmental and cultural stressors
Experience working with diverse populations in community and medical settings
Experience working with persons presenting with SPMI and dual diagnoses
Trauma-informed care training/expertise
