It is the mission of the Health Services Unit of the VA DOC to provide quality security, medical and mental health services for the safety and benefit of the general public.
To provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to mentally ill inmates.
To function as a mental health provider to the inmates by performing initial and ongoing psychiatric assessments; to prescribe appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates to improve behaviors; assist with preparation and modification of treatment plans and recommend and assign to appropriate programs. Also to provide supervision to psychiatric providers at the institution. These services may be provided via telehealth.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited medical school and psychiatric residency program. Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia; M.D./D.O
Skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive psychiatric services.
Candidate should have the ability to function independently and with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft outlook and Windows is beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer experience providing care in a correctional setting.
Prefer Certification by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
