What You'll Do:
Responsible for taking approved projects from concept/solutions phase through detailed engineering and into implementation, supporting the program management team with technical expertise and leadership. Ensure Americold drives clarity of requirements and supplier/OEM technical delivery. This role is responsible for validating the engineering and performance of the equipment, working with the site/field implementation teams and suppliers, supporting new development/construction, as well as technical retrofit work.


Essential Functions:

  • Pre-Project - SME to ensure inputs on costs are engineered and delivered by the correct parties, this includes participating in the RFP and vendor selection process, primarily for General Contractor and Automation partners, collaborate with Pre-construction leadership on contract execution and land due diligence
  • Integrated Detailed Engineering (IDE) - lead this phase of engineering, taking the design concept into a deeper level of engineering with suppliers and a specific property, collaborating with internal, external, and customer resources
    • Work with Solutions and Design Engineering to take conceptual designs into a layout with enough detail for suppliers to price and implement
    • Plan and schedule IDE Workshop sessions, identify resource requirements, facilitate all related meetings and activities, drive all IDE deliverables (final design and layouts, construction and automation GMPs, revised project schedules and vendor proposals, updated capital budgets and OpEx requirements) to completion
    • Track all key milestones and elevate lack of integration or upcoming risks or dates in jeopardy to executive leadership
  • Project Engineering – SME to support PMO through launch including construction, installation & commissioning of equipment and IT systems coordination (WMS and WES) to ensure integrated delivery meets requirements
    • Work with the lead engineer and/or architect of each contractor to thoroughly review layouts, coordinate conflicts and solicit Americold functional area lead inputs (i.e. safety, maintenance, etc.)
    • Review and signoff on all final shop drawings for automation, in conjunction with the Automation and Construction Site Leads
    • Facilitate all electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration engineering across all contractors are compliant with the project design. Validate all costing is included for final contracts.
    • Finalize simulations / emulations to ensure equipment specifications and software will meet business objectives
  • Technical Project Management – for non-development projects and retrofits, support technical implementations when broad-based PMO team is not needed
What Experience You Need:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, or related field
  • 5-7 years of demonstrated Engineering, Project Management and Implementation experience in the fields of construction, warehouse automation, operations and/or logistics required
  • Successful track record managing multiple high priority capital investment ($10M+) and customer implementations using project/program management methods and tools
  • Strong facility layout and design engineering skills in a variety of verticals and channels
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications to include Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and VISIO (and other process documentation tools)
  • Must be able to travel at an estimated ~50% of the time to support projects and staff both domestically and internationally; may need to travel on short notice (same week) and occasionally for extended periods of time including weekends during critical times such as facility launches or key construction milestones
  • May require visiting facility operations in temperatures at or below freezing
What Could Set You Apart:
  • Proven leadership and understanding of automation technologies, robotics, and application engineering, specifically around pallet, layer, case and each handling in the grocery/temp-controlled environment
  • Operations management experience desired; proven experience inside a distribution center and leadership or other role through two or more go-lives
  • PMP/PMI certification highly desired or similar levels of program/project management education
  • A results-based leadership style with strong impact and influencing skills
