  • Equip talent in underinvested communities with the skills and credentials to compete successfully for quality income and wealth opportunities.
  • Invest in businesses, housing and other community infrastructure to catalyze economic, health, safety and educational mobility for individuals and communities.
  • Strengthen existing alliances while building new collaborations to increase our impact on the progress of people and places.
  • Develop leadership and the capacity of partners to advance our work together
  • Drive local, regional, and national policy and system changes that foster broadly shared prosperity and well-being.

Over the last 40 years, LISC and its affiliates have invested approximately $24 billion in businesses, affordable housing, health, educational mobility, community and recreational facilities, public safety, employment and other projects that help to revitalize and stabilize underinvested communities. LISC Safety & Justice

For over 25 years, LISC Safety & Justice has been providing support to our local offices, nonprofit partners and collaborators to leverage neighborhood development as a tool for creating safer spaces and empowered residents. We bring together partners that view local crime challenges with their own unique perspectives as safety alliances committed to equitable responses and long-term solutions. As we search nationally for new strategies to create both safety and justice, LISC is a crucial partner for effective and transformational approaches at neighborhood, municipal, county, and national levels. This includes supporting community violence intervention efforts in addition to comprehensive community approaches that include elements of prevention and local direction.

Our team members are passionate about and committed to community-driven and community-led approaches. We provide customized Training & Technical Assistance (TTA) across the country to stakeholders enhancing community justice through alternatives to incarceration, promoting healthy and equitable community development, and addressing the impacts of trauma. We provide financial and skill building resources for programs to keep young people from getting ensnared in the criminal legal system and initiatives to support people returning from incarceration. We help create safe spaces through place-based strategies that build community while increasing safety. Safety & Justice team members work directly with small- and medium-sized nonprofits, with local governments, and lead technical assistance efforts for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative for Law Enforcement and Comprehensive School-Based Approach to Youth Violence and Victimization program, with several Community Violence Intervention and Prevention TTA programs being added to our portfolio in the coming months.
