Role Purpose
The Program Manager, Infection Prevention & Surveillance is a system-level position and will report directly to the System Director, Infection Prevention.
The program manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing standardized surveillance programs for BJC HealthCare; including communicable disease reporting, healthcare-associated infection (HAI) identification using Epic/Bugsy and the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance definitions, root cause analysis (RCA), and data dissemination.
The program manager is responsible for maintaining BJC HealthCare data integrity within the NHSN, and is a subject matter expert in the field of HAI surveillance and regulatory reporting requirements.
The program manager will collaborate with BJC stakeholders, including Epic, analytics and regulatory and public health agencies to develop structures and processes that support standardized surveillance and data dissemination; is responsible for training and mentorship to new/current members of the Infection Prevention.

Responsibilities
- Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
- Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
- Oversees the work of the surveillance team members in identification and reporting of healthcare-associated infections and communicable disease reporting.
- Maintains data integrity within the National Healthcare Safety Network, including HSO annual reporting plans, monthly unit / location mapping, monthly events and denominator uploads, and alignment of regulatory reporting requirements.
- Develops standardized RCA process for HAI; assists in identifying and supporting system opportunities for improvement through trending of HAI events and RCA findings.
- Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned
- Provides training and mentorship to new and current Infection Prevention and surveillance team members on the foundations of HAI surveillance, including assessment of competency with subject matter.
- Collaborates with BJC stakeholders, including system and HSO Infection Prevention departments, provides surveillance data, and participates in programs and initiatives as needed by the department and in accordance with the overall strategic priorities of BJC HealthCare.
