The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) supports civil society organizations advocating for public health policies that reduce death and disease. GHAI is an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) is a leading policy advocacy voice on a range of issues including cardiovascular health, civil registration & vital statistics, drowning prevention, food policy, maternal and reproductive health, preventing epidemics, and road safety, among others. GHAI provides strategic support to advocates working to enact and implement laws that save lives and reduce global health inequities. A program of the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, GHAI leverages the successes and lessons learned in the global fight against tobacco deaths to strengthen advocacy capacity to improve public health around the globe using a locally-led approach that is adaptable to culture, political context and issue area.
Program Description
The Food and Nutrition Policy Portfolio encompasses two Programs in which GHAI provides financial and technical assistance to run advocacy campaigns to promote healthy diets in 23 countries in Latin-America, Caribbean Region, Africa, and Asia:
The Food Policy Program (FPP) at GHAI supports civil society organizations to pass and implement key policies aimed at developing healthier food environments to protect the right to adequate food to prevent chronic diseases and attributable deaths, including: taxes on unhealthy food and beverage products; mandatory front-of-package nutrition warning labels to inform consumers about the content of sugar salt and fats in packaged food; restrictions on marketing of unhealthy food products to protect children from deceptive marketing; and regulating the supply of unhealthy products in public sector environments, particularly schools to promote healthy schools environments.
The Cardiovascular Health Program (CVH), GHAI supports civil society organizations to adopt key policies aimed at preventing millions of deaths from cardiovascular disease. Related to nutrition policies, the CVH program includes the banning of industrially produced trans-fatty acids (TFA) in the food supply and various measures to reduce the sodium consumption.
Position Overview
Working closely with, and reporting to, the Vice President of Food and Nutrition Policy, the Program Manager (PM) of the Food and Nutrition Policy Portfolio, will support the management of program planning, implementation and monitoring activities across the portfolio. The PM supports the VP in managing and tracking budgets and activities and works across the team and with GHAI’s donors and partners.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH:

    • Assists the VP to implement an overall strategy and framework for providing ongoing technical assistance to achieve the goals in the food and nutrition policies portfolio.
    • Provides input to and supports the follow-up for the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all the projects in food and nutrition portfolio.
    • Coordinates the review, tracking and execution of grants to CSOs in low- and middle-income countries to run the advocacy campaigns.
    • Ensures on-time task deliverables and overall project monitoring and evaluation and donor reporting.
    • Supports the VP in the relationships with external partner agencies and donors to share the work of the program.
    • Supports the VP to follow up and review the political landscape, identify potential in-country partners, assess existing partner capacity and determine best approaches to enhance capacity, and for policy change in low- and middle-income countries.
    • Gives inputs and support to the VP in the supervision of the design, planning, implementation, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation of all the projects in food and nutrition policies.
    • Supports the design and/or implement projects for potential new donors.
    • Organizes events, strategic meetings including materials development, presentations, etc.Assist to the VP to coordinate with cross-discipline team members communication to make sure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules.
    • Prepares status reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing relevant information.
    • Facilitates communication channels of the VP with the team, coordinating with the Executive Assistant of the VP.
    • Assist to the VP in strategic and action planning that integrates best practices in political advocacy.
    • Research topics, synthesizes information, and prepares reports and presentations for program implementation and external requests, as assigned.
    • Participates in strategic meetings with the VP and sends meeting minutes and follow up action as required.
    • Participates and contributes to coalitions, task forces, and other stakeholder groups, where appropriate and as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned to assist the VP agenda.

SKILLS YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, communications, international development, or related field.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience working on public health or advocacy initiatives.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and extremely organized.
    • Prior work in non-profit or non-governmental organizations a plus.
    • Passionate advocate for public health policy change.
    • Knowledge evidence-based food and nutrition policy to protect the right to adequate food and the right to health, preferred.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced while juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Program and budget management experience.
    • Excellent project management, organizational and time management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as autonomously.
    • Ability to travel internationally.
    • Language skills highly desirable.
