BACKGROUND

About Energy Trust of Oregon

Energy Trust of Oregon is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy development. We serve Oregon customers of Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, NW Natural, Cascade Natural Gas and Avista, and SW Washington customers of NW Natural. Year over year Energy Trust is recognized as one of the 100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon.

Our Vision

Clean, affordable energy for everyone.

Our Commitment to Diversity

We recognize the lack of diversity in our industry, and we actively seek to address it with our hiring and retention practices as well as our values. We believe every person and their lived experience is integral to building a vibrant culture and delivering effective services to all customers we serve. We are committed to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, and we encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds and experience to apply.

Our Location

Energy Trust provides for a range of work location options, including remote, hybrid and in-office work. This position will represent Energy Trust in public settings and potentially at community events. We are open to candidates who live throughout Oregon and Washington. The Marketing Lead would be expected to report to the office on a quarterly basis, at minimum.

What We’re Looking For:

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Marketing Lead creates, manages and oversees implementation of marketing strategies and tactics for Energy Trust’s energy programs, as well as energy initiatives undertaken in collaboration with other organizations including utilities, community organizations and state and federal agencies. This work aligns with Energy Trust’s mission to deliver the benefits of clean energy to Oregonians.

The Marketing Lead serves on the Programs Leadership team and is responsible for supporting critical business goals for the Programs group and the organization.

Energy Trust has a highly integrated, multichannel approach to marketing that is rooted in the values of the Energy Trust brand. The Program Marketing team strives to achieve best practices for inclusive multicultural marketing to ensure that customers who have not been able to receive the benefits of clean energy can participate in our programs in culturally welcoming ways. Marketing channels currently in use include – but aren’t limited to – advertising, public relations, direct marketing, digital strategies, social media, community outreach, events/sponsorships and marketing collateral.

The Marketing Lead provides strategic direction to and manages the Program Marketing team and oversees the Programs-specific work of staff within the internal Communications & Customer Services Group and external marketing teams within Program Delivery or Management Contractors (PMC/PDC). Because customer service, customer/community outreach and communications are integral to marketing, the Marketing Lead also ensures that the Program Marketing team works closely with cross-functional teams to support these functions. The Marketing Lead serves as a key liaison to the leadership of Energy Trust’s Communication & Customer Service group, which includes the organizational marketing team, to ensure alignment at a brand level.

What You’ll Do:

  • Demonstrate a solid background in marketing principles and execution required to lead the strategic vision for program marketing.
  • Supervise and provide strategic direction for the Program Marketing Team and other program staff to deliver marketing that helps programs reach goals. The Lead must have a foundation in gaining market intelligence and integrating this into marketing strategies program design.
  • Advance multicultural marketing best practices within Energy Trust, contract marketing teams, and creative service providers.
  • Direct strategy and resource marketing staff for new initiatives to deliver effective marketing that supports goals.
  • Develop and oversee marketing-specific scopes, budgets and contracts for all contracted marketing work, including program delivery contracts, scopes and creative service providers.
  • Lead public relations strategy for Programs and collaborate with the organizational communications team for broader PR efforts. Serve as a media spokesperson, as needed, on topics that center on Energy Trust programs.
  • Oversee the development and management of annual program marketing budgets.
  • Maintain working relationships with marketing and outreach staff at utilities, including collaborating on strategy to reach customers, and providing insights and details on program activities and results to utilities.
  • Collaborate with the organizational marketing and communications team to align brand marketing and program marketing communications and outreach coordination/collaboration.
  • Perform all job functions in a safe manner

The above information is designed to outline the functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Hire and supervise Program Marketing staff.
  • Hire and direct the work of internal and external contractors.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or equivalent in related discipline, or equivalent experience, required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in developing and managing multiple marketing and communications projects simultaneously, and providing customer service to a range of clients, both internal and external.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in the energy efficiency and/or renewable energy industry.
  • Minimum of 4 years of supervisory management experience leading marketing professionals and contractors and maintaining strong productive working relationships in a highly collaborative environment.
