Responsibilities


Provides leadership and direction in policy development and implementation for sponsored research activities to achieve or maintain compliance with internal and external requirements. Stay appraised of changes in Federal, State, and University rules pertaining to research compliance, and other applicable research administration related requirements. Participate in research administration training and maintaining applicable University certifications.

Provides guidance and direction to faculty, postdocs, and graduate students in support of intramural and extramural research and serves as grant writing specialist for Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine. Responsibilities include identifying funding opportunities, develop projects and proposals, editing grant applications and manuscripts, drafting letters of support, and obtaining required signatures.

Develops and maintains partnerships throughout the University in order to attain departmental goals by serving as a liaison with funding agencies, Sponsored Research Office, COM Pre-Award office, COM Post-Award Office, coordination of grant activities among institutions and subcontractors, etc. and helping researchers identify potential collaborators and performing introductions.

Manages the BSSM Contracts and Grants. Creates and maintains proposal files and compiles information for tracking contract and grant activity.

At the direction of the Department Chair, serve on the College of Medicine faculty committees, to include the Faculty Council, Executive Committee, and other appropriate committees requiring faculty participation. Approve faculty and staff appointments, reappointments, termination, and dismissal actions.

Qualifications


Bachelor's degree and six years of experience related to budget, financial and/or accounting services or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience in the same (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to ten years.)

  • Experience in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Experience in evaluating process effectiveness and developing changes or alternatives.
  • Experience in strategically planning and serving as a catalyst for organizational change, cultivating a shared vision with others, and motivating others to transfer vision into action.
  • Experience in utilizing problem solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word or equivalent software.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning, development, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of contract administration.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
