Program Aide/Paraprofessional

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Assistant Scout Executive/COO

Position Overview

The Program Aide is responsible for implementing and supervising the Scouting Program in an in-school or after school setting, as a part of the Quapaw Area Council’s School Impact Program. In conjunction with our partner organization, the Program Aide will work directly with our youth members to teach them life skills including physical fitness, environmental conservation, active citizenship, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) awareness.

A passion for helping young people develop into responsible adults, and a high comfort-level for working directly with children are essential skills for this position.

Commitment: Give leadership to the development and maintenance of quality Scouting programs located in underserved communities in accordance with the Boy Scouts of America’s Mission Statement.

Specific Responsibilities:

Ø Ensure the delivery of quality programs in all Scouting units.

· Review and become familiar with program materials.

· Follow the prescribed lesson plans, as outlined.

· Supply program materials, Scouting literature, and other support as needed by youth and adults.

· Increase program quality through retention of youth, advancement, and youth participation.

· Complete Fast Start, Youth Protection, “This is Scouting”, leader-specific training, and other advanced training deemed necessary for their areas of responsibility.

· Recruit and support parent volunteers to help with meetings and activities.

Ø Provide a well-balanced variety of Scouting activities, including camping opportunities, hikes, field trips, cultural activities, and other horizon-broadening experiences for youth.

· Develop and maintain good working relationships with Scout leaders, Charter Partners, Parks and community associations, neighborhood churches, and other youth-serving nonprofit agencies.

· Conduct Scouting awareness functions to increase public exposure, attract volunteers, and recruit Youth at various expos.

· Seek opportunities for program expansion and give direct leadership to organizing and staffing new Scout troops, Cub Scout packs, and Venturing crews.

· Participate in scheduled meetings.

· Strive to ensure that every youth participant will have the opportunity to earn a minimum of two rank advancement each semester during the program year.

Responsibilities Include:

• The effective operation and supervision of youth in the Scouting program within selected public schools, community centers or participating chartered organizations.
• Willingness to learn weekly program content & deliver that content to our youth members
• Ability to commit to a weekly schedule of program with the ability to work part-time twenty hours a week.
• Coordinate weekly program content with professional staff members
• Ability to work in a team-setting with two to four other program aides.
• Ability to work home LSU Football games on the weekends.

Qualifications:

• High School degree, College education a plus

• Must be 21+

• Youth-oriented, having the ability to work well with children

• Should be organized, self-motivated and a team player

• Must live locally & be able to arrange transportation to and from program locations

• Boy or Girl Scouting experience a plus

• Available Monday – Friday, 2:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
