Professional Math/Science Tutor

Duty Schedule:

20-25 hours a week between 8-5pm Monday to Fridays, occasional travel and hours after hours.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The role of the Professional Math/Science Tutor is to assist science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) faculty at the respective Centers, tutor students individually or in groups via on-line applications, direct students in the use of mathematics software used by Dine College, develop a collection of math resource materials for students, conduct academic and mathematics workshops via ZOOM and GoBoard on-line applications, and submit student progress reports to referring personnel. Professional Mathematics Tutor will also facilitate structured mathematics sessions/workshops and/or mathematics study strategies. The Professional Mathematics Tutor is supervised by the respective Learning Center Managers/Directors. of a team and solo, and creativity to spare.

Identify the tutoring needs of students and provide appropriate academic support or referral via on-line support.
Facilitate learning in becoming a guide or coach to assist students to become successful and independent learners.
Assisi individual student on a one-to-one basis with math examples using on-line applications.
Create and use a variety of instructional techniques in tutoring sessions via on-line applications to meet the learning needs of students.
Integrate effective study and learning strategies using on-line applications to maximize the potential of students for academic progress.
Conduct monthly academic and mathematics workshops via on-line applications such as ZOOM and/or GoBoard.
Collaborate with student affairs staff and faculty on-line to deliver a comprehensive learning support system (become familiar with resourcesvailable to students).

Promote the college's tutoring program during outreach activities and events.
Identify or develop handouts and on-line resources and materials as to engage students in learning mathematical methods.

Establish and maintain on-line rapport with STEM instructors to ensure student success.
Collect necessary course syllabus or subject materials to implement in tutoring sessions.
Consult via on-line applications with faculty on student progress and, when appropriate, suggestions for strategies on assisting students.

Establish and maintain rapport with Student Affairs staff to ensure student success.
Maintain accurate record of tutoring sessions.
Collaborate via on-line applications with referring personnel on student attendance and progress in tutoring sessions.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

At least two years experience in teaching or tutoring STEM subjects ranging from basic STEM topics to college level courses in STEM. Required CRLA certification; training will be provided. Willing to acquire the knowledge of using ZOOM and GoBoard applications once

Preferred:

Two year degree in STEM discipline or related field required. Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or STEM related field preferred. Must have experience teaching and tutoring via on-line applications such as ZOOM and GoBoard applications or willing to acquire skills in the use of said applications once hired.

Knowledge:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Communications and Media ' Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

Skills:

Successfully completing projects efficiently and on time; strong problem solving and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel and ability to learn other software that may be applicable. Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

Abilities:

Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative and maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to work on a team, conduct collaborative research, and deal effectively and courteously with supervisor, peers, and external stakeholders.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

Must be able to work flexible hours. Must be able to work with minimal distance from co-workers and tutees and abide by office regulations and policies. Must be able to lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds. Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual in delivering quality tutorial services with a positive attitude.

Other Requirement(s):

Must have and maintain a valid state issued driver's license and successfully pass a background check. Other licensing may be required depending on position and/or area of assignment.
