Role Overview:
Under the direction of the Senior Embryologist/ Lab coordinator this position will be responsible for all routine lab procedures and will contribute to the successful completion of semen preparation, in vitro fertilization, and embryo culture and cryopreservation protocols. This position will aid in achieving current and forecasted production goals and will participate in the analysis of performance results, actively seeking opportunities for further investigation and testing solutions. This position will be expected to coordinate the training of lab techs and lab assistants. Will help the lab coordinator providing support to all team members, satellite laboratories and ensuring responsibilities are completed within production. This position requires availability to travel to visit satellite laboratories when requested by the manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordination of daily routine lab procedures including but not limited to maturation of bovine oocytes, semen thawing and preparation, in vitro fertilization, in vitro culture of embryos, cryopreservation of bovine embryos, loading embryos in straws for embryo transfer and media preparation.
  • Oversee all aspects of grading, staging and loading embryos in straws for embryo transfer procedure.
  • Oversee all aspects of embryo cryopreservation and thawing procedures.
  • Oversee the calibration and maintenance of key lab equipment such as incubators, autoclave, lab hoods, centrifuge, nitrogen tanks and microscopes.
  • Execute analysis of results and trouble shooting
  • Serve as lab contact for external contacts (company, customers) regarding matters pertaining to SOPs, and procedural demonstrations under the direction of the Senior Embryologist/ Lab Coordinator.
  • Follow established safety regulations.
  • availability to travel when requested by the manager.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Biomedicine or related field required.
  • In-depth technical and scientific knowledge on IVF and embryology required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant embryo experience.
  • Ability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays depending on production demands.
  • Ability to follow detailed safety protocols as required during daily exposure to needles or other sharp objects, as well as, bodily fluids of beef and dairy cattle.
  • Ability to sit up to six (6) hours, utilizing hands and fingers to complete repetitive motions.
  • Exceptional follow-through consistently demonstrating ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion.
  • Excellent eye-hand coordination, with the visual ability to correctly identify and distinguish objects of various size, color and depth perception near and far away.
  • Demonstration of a depth of knowledge of SOPS, application of principles, concepts, production practices and standards.
  • Team-centric, detail-orientated, and highly organized.
  • Solution-driven and determined to achieve production goals.
  • Ability to work under close supervision from Senior Embryo and Embryo Techs.
  • Solves routine problems of moderate scope and complexity by following established policies and SOPS referring to Senior Embryologist or Lab Coordinator for guidance.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
