Position Summary

Process Techs will need to be able to trouble shoot all thermoforming, trimming, and extrusion jobs; improving cycle times and setup reduction establishing consistency and repeatability on all shifts. Process Techs will maintain all set up sheets related to each cell. In addition, Process Techs will be responsible for training thermoforming and trim cell operators in general operation, setup, and troubleshooting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primary resource for set-up and troubleshooting of molding, trimming, and extrusion activities.
  • Responsible for First Production Builds (FPB’s) producing parts meeting customer requirements and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for creating and reviewing set up sheets, work instructions, sample parts, preliminary QC documents, and all other related documentation resulting from above activities, with necessary collaboration from Quality resources. This includes reviewing and maintaining set up sheets, including troubleshooting notes, and QC documentation on an ongoing basis.
  • Evaluates manufacturing processes for potential margin improvement relating but not limited to cell layout, reduction of scrap, decreased set-up/change over times, cost reduction initiatives.
  • Responsible for leading teams in problem resolution activities and Kaizen events in response to above evaluations, many times these activities will take place during production runs.
  • Responsible for verifying and collecting data from work cell takt time sheets searching for reasons “Why” quality cannot be met or rates cannot be met using “5 Why” strategies.
  • Driver of continuous improvement activities.
  • Works closely with other process leads and shift leads to ensure consistent repeatable processes.
  • Responsible for conformance to all quality procedures and processes such as first piece approvals and work instructions.
  • Review work instructions and sample parts for accuracy and initiate any corrective actions.
  • Train operators in operation, setup and troubleshooting of thermoforming, CNC, robotic, and extrusion machines.
  • Responsible for developing and training techs according to standardized Hampel thermoforming, trimming, and extrusion techniques and processes with the intention to increase the equipment knowledge plantwide.
  • Respond to Corrective Action requests as it relates to process improvements suggestions.

Minimum Level of Education/Training Required

  • Associates degree in technical field or related equivalent thermoforming experience.
  • Experience with CNC and/or robotic trim cell operations.
  • Experience in extrusion operations.

Minimum Experience Required

  • 5 – 10 years thermoforming experience.
  • Knowledge of all thermoforming equipment.
  • Ability to program thermoforming, trimming and ancillary machines.
  • Excellent mathematical proficiency.
  • Ability to write instructions and provide graphical examples.
  • Understand basic manufacturing cost principles and how to present analyses.
  • Possess good planning and scheduling skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in high level analytical thinking and problem solving.
  • Programming in general, use logic and flowcharts.
  • Proficient with MS Office products.
