Role Overview

JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Process Engineer will be a member of the BU Process Engineering team (“T-Function”) that is responsible for the industrial
roadmap, process design, troubleshooting and improvements as well as supporting the safe, reliable and cost effective operations.
The operating context is the Advanced Material Specialties, characterized by fast, technology-lead growth and operating
proprietary and continuosly developed technologies and Processes.
The incumbent will be responsible for hands-on support, troubleshooting and optimization of Processes/Industrial facilities and
related related Projects, operating in strict cooperation with plant organization as well as other technical departments (R&I, Group
Engineering and Construction, etc).


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Process Engineer will report to the T-Function Manager, and will be part of a broad, dynamic, international team displaced on
multiple sites, in US and overseas, being responsible for:


  • Providing the Process Engineering support to the production unit, needed to grant the performance of the Industrial assets of
the site and the continuity of the Business: troubleshoot Process and operational problems, minimize unit interruptions and
maximize capacity utilization
  • Support the deployment of the industrial roadmap that defines capacity, performance, debottlenecking, quality performance
strategy and timing that is supported by project scopes as well as plant data and other experimental data.
  • Developing process designs for capital projects. Designs will include mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams
(PFDs), process and instrument drawings (P&IDs), equipment specifications, instrument datasheets, safety considerations,
relief valve sizing and control strategies.
  • Operate in a strict liaison regarding technological matters towards other departments (especially R&D, operations and Quality)
  • Study, define and propose the most optimal production conditions, taking into account cost and quality, even by attending
lab/pilot experimental campaign at experimental facilities located in the R&D centers of the Business Unit.
  • Analysis of the performance of the production facilities and analyze production processes in order to improve them, utilizing
process models to evaluate cost reduction opportunities and reconciling process data.
  • Recommending, designing, conducting and evaluating process testing for the purpose of quantifying unit performance for cost
reduction, expansion, performance improvement.
  • Act as a liaison with engineering (Solvay and/or external contractors) during design and execution phase for projects.
  • Participate / lead HSE/environmental activities (safety audits, PSSR field reviews, Follow-Up activities)


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a strong technical background, a MSc in Chemical Engineering eager to undertake a career development in Technical
departments, expanding his competencies and responsibilities by on-the-job learning in a fast-growing and dynamic context.
  • Knowledge with statistics, related computer software, Aspen simulation, Microsoft applications, mass and energy balances,
flow sheet preparation and design/specification of chemical process equipment is critical.
  • Incumbent must possess strong safety values, high work ethic and willingness to get involved in all aspects of the business.
  • Availability to travel within US and/or overseas (typically, EU), occasionally even »50%, is a must
