Responsibilities


GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Coach will work with teams to identify and move process improvement initiatives toward their ultimate target condition. The Coach will interface with all types of staff in all types of areas, both clinical and non-clinical. Specific Responsibilities.

Under general guidance and with latitude for independent judgment and initiative.


TECHNICAL COACHING:

Assigned to UR Medicine Performance Program (UPP) teams

  • Facilitate the identification and prioritization of initiatives in the teams
  • Leads the implementation of initiatives through to the full realization of benefits
  • The Coach is a lean practitioner able to provide expert coaching for lean practitioners on implementing Lean principles, tools, and techniques.
  • Accountable for developing lean skills within the assigned value stream
  • Facilitate Targeted Improvement Efforts (TIEs) by defining the problem, data gathering, and successful implementation of countermeasures
  • Lead through influence, as the Coach does not have direct authority over project teams or staff

Responsible for ad hoc coaching as needed or assigned

  • Subject matter expert available to all lean practitioners to answer questions, act as sounding board, issue resolution, etc.
  • Assist lean practitioners in developing appropriate measures and metrics for capturing lean benefits in all lean activities
  • Coach individuals working towards their completion of lean certification
  • Provide necessary support, using a lean methodology and implementation of lean thinking, to drive Ever Better Everyday initiatives across the organization


TRAINING & EDUCATION:

  • Through coaching work, the Coach will identify opportunities to meet the training needs and requirements to achieve successful improvements.
  • Deliver training as required to include ad hoc requests and in-the-moment team meeting training.
  • Assist in the identification of Lean training priorities.
  • Help author courseware.


GENERAL ANALYTICS:

In conjunction with the analytics team, Coach will work to produce reports that offer insight into the performance improvement initiatives assigned. This includes the production of graphical presentations to assist in the sharing of information regarding improvement projects’ performance. The Coach is also responsible for analyzing data to determine implications and ensure project alignment with goals.

Help identify success metrics and help determine if goals are achieved through regular monitoring of progress across assigned projects.

  • Ability to quantify anticipated benefits and then actual benefits of improvement projects
  • Teaching teams to work independently in this respect


CORE COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred
  • Well-developed project management skills, including expertise in change management and the use of tools for evaluating existing work processes and recommending improvements in workflow
  • Trained Lean Practitioner, a certified black belt in six sigma process preferred but not required
  • Ability to view the “big picture” and engage stakeholders from all areas of the organization in designing new systems for collaborative care and operational improvement
  • Sophisticated analytic ability; able to determine best sources and metrics for ongoing measurement for key activities of the organization.
  • Professional and effective presentation, written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to influence and direct and coach diverse groups; very comfortable presenting
  • Supervisory experience
  • Exemplary organization skills, adept at keeping multiple projects on-task and moving forward
  • Ability to sense when inactivity on a project is indicative of stagnation versus an acceptable pace
  • Perseverance, a strong drive to do what is needed to see projects to completion; able to motivate and maintain self-enthusiasm and also among the team
  • Positive attitude, welcoming demeanor, always on
  • Forward and future-oriented
