Job Title: Pro Wood Bat Specialist

Department: Pro Wood Bat Department

Reports to: Customization Manager

Location: Washington, MO

FLSA Status: Hourly

General Overview:

Pro Wood Bat Specialist is responsible for the safety, quality, and production of machining a wood billet into a rough wood bat in the process of producing the finest sporting good products for professional athletes while working in a safe organized environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Follow all safety, quality, manufacturing processes and procedures
• Conduct in-process quality checks to ensure compliance standards are met
• Read, understand, and follow all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in production that support the manufacturing of our sporting good products
• Read, understand, and follow all product specifications and processes that support the manufacturing of our sporting good products
• Understand rules, regulations, and specifications for manufacturing pro bats for professional athletes
• Reads and interprets technical specifications and design models and inputs the product design into the computer modeling software
• Use drawings and/or CAD design software to create bat models according to established specifications to run on CNC lathe
• Programs and sets up CNC lathes according to specifications
• Adjusts machine settings to the desired product specifications, and troubleshoots and maintains the machine
• Tests accuracy of settings and programs
• Operate CNC machine
• Organize the billet or bat stock inventory in a safe, efficient, and user-friendly system
• Operate bat scanning system to accurately measure bats
• Select billets using calipers and scales to determine calculated weight of billet for custom pro bat grade
• Clean machinery on a weekly basis
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment including daily end-of-shift cleaning

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education Required:

• Associate degree in a wood working, computer aided design, and/or related field preferred
• Three to five years of experience handcrafting wood products specifically working with hardwoods
• Three to five years of experience using CAD software and creating drawings according to specifications
• Working knowledge and understanding of wood machinability
• Hands-on experience working with wood products and processes
• Proficiency in operating measuring tools including rulers, calculators, scales, calipers, scales, slope of grain, and measuring tape
• Working knowledge and understanding of wood properties including structure, grains, density, flexibility preferred
• Working knowledge and understanding of wood drying techniques preferred
• Knowledge and understanding of lumber grades preferred

• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot issues independently
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate with different audiences

Working Conditions: Clean, organized, climate-controlled production work environment. Depending upon production department, may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and outside elements.

Safety Hazards:

Depending upon production department, may be exposed to dust, air borne fibers, dirt, noise, vibrations, chemicals, and solvents. Safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe boots, gloves, sleeves, smocks, and positive pressure full-face hoods are required while performing certain tasks.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedures. Must have good verbal communication skills.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply concepts of basic math and reading measurements (fractions and decimals)

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to recognize a situation and escalate clearly. Ability to deal with problems and contribute to problem solving.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
