The Principal Scientist, Global Analytical Services, is responsible for, under minimal direction and guidance, assisting management in implementing analytical strategies for the analytical operations. This position will focus on the development and implementation of analytical methods that meet global business objectives including new product development. The incumbent will conduct research based activities to characterize ingredients (actives, raw materials and excipients). This role also includes the development, improvement and transfer of analytical methodologies used in the evaluation or characterization of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products, including dietary supplements, nutritional products and nutraceuticals working with R&D group and other cross-functional teams. This position will mentor senior and junior scientists in routine work. This role will also work within Quality organization to ensure compliance and safety.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing new analytical methods for raw materials and finished products for new product development for VMHS (Vitamins Minerals Herbal Supplements).
• Troubleshooting and modifying the existing analytical methods to improve the robustness and accuracy of the methods.
• Evaluating and implementing analytical strategies to resolve analytical issues for the global laboratory operations.
• Leading and executing method transfers to internal or external laboratories.
• Writing analytical testing procedures and technical reports.
• Assisting in Out-Of-Specifications (OOS) investigations related to testing methods whenever assigned.
• Making recommendations to management regarding areas for development or improvement.
• Accurately recording own data and results in a timely manner and in compliance with appropriate quality standards. As needed, reviewing and providing comments/recommendations on data, protocols and reports in a timely manner.
• Assisting the specifications group with raw material, bulk, and finished good specification development or revisions.
• Complying with all SOPs and policies on cGMP and safety.

• Strong technical expertise in developing and implementing analytical methods, and conducting analytical testing using UPLC, HPLC, GC, ICP, mass spec, and other modern analytical techniques.
• In-depth knowledge of Empower and other instrument software, analytical techniques and their applications to complex analytical and dietary/botanical chemistry matrices.
• Experience scouting and implementing new technologies for efficiency improvement.
• In-depth knowledge and experience in dietary supplement formulation and specifications development is a strong preference.
• Experience in LIMS implementation and operation in lab environment is a plus.
• Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry or related fields with at least 4 years of experience, or M.S. in Analytical Chemistry or related fields with at least 8 years of experience, or B.S in Analytical Chemistry or related fields with at least 10 years of experience.
• Able to manage multiple projects concurrently and set priorities in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
• Skillful in experimental design, data creation and collection, and problem solving.
• Leadership skills with a strong team-work spirit.
• Good understanding of the scientific principles associated with the analysis of dietary supplements in complex matrices.
• Knowledge of regulations including FDA 21CFR 111 and other GxP.
• Effective writing, interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with cross functional teams.
• Strong time and project management skills.
• Regular lab work lifting.
• Work environment may be exposed to powders, chemicals and allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, milk, dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, soy, fish and shellfish)
