Principal Project Engineer - Waco, TX

This Principal Project Engineer will be a technical lead for the larger and more complex projects executed by the Major Projects team and will be responsible for all aspects of planning and executing projects from ideation to project closure. The person in this role will potentially lead projects in process areas, building and infrastructure, general manufacturing processes, and packaging systems depending on business needs. The role owns overall leadership of major capital projects through the MWC Engineering Execution Standard for executional excellence in project delivery. These roles will either be based out of, or require significant travel to, all of our major sites across North America.

C Engineering Work Process, to manage projects. Aspects of the standard include, but are not limited to, team leadership, chartering, scoping, resource planning, budget development & management, schedule development & management, commercial buy planning, stakeholder engagement & communication, risk management, safe design & construction safety, and project closeout.

Principal Accountabilities

Associate

  • Develop personal leadership and managerial skills
  • Provide leadership to continuously improve the effectiveness of the technical function

  • Develop projects that meet business and regional activity plans
  • Communicate with all Stakeholders to ensure all project objectives are clearly defined and achieved
  • Ensure delivery of scope, time, budget, and cash flow for all projects
  • Lead team members to gain and a sustain a technical competitive advantage
  • Ensure we look out for the safety our associates and contractors.
  • Drive initiatives that shorten new product and project cycle times
  • Drive initiatives that improve implementation efficiencies as well as operational efficiencies
  • Drive lean ways of working in the engineering process and as a project deliverable
  • Drive decisions to improve business measurements such as ROTA, FATR etc.

Functional

  • Provide innovative solutions resulting in sustained technical competitive advantage
  • Stay current with all applicable technology developments
  • Provide project solutions with value added engineering and lean design
  • Deliver projects that maximize asset utilization
  • Support the development of technology platforms for providing a sustained technical advantage
  • Ensure an effective Construction Safety Plan is in place on all project work.
  • Drive to identify, protect and expand intellectual property of corporation
  • Develop standards for equipment, systems and engineering processes or assigned functional area and collaborate with other senior engineers and global technical teams
  • Develop external business relationships including construction contractors and engineering resources
  • Proactively develop practices and methodologies that increase the effectiveness and reduces the costs of engineering
  • Balance use of internal engineering resources with third party engineering firms for maximum value and efficiency

Leadership

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership to project teams and the sites
  • Effectively represent regional engineering function at the sites
  • Manage project teams to meet project objectives as agreed by stakeholders throughout project execution
  • Lead both internal and external resources to drive a safe work environment. Be a role model for what Engineering Safety Leadership should look for construction activities. Drive project teams to focus on safety, environmental, food safety, etc. on all projects.
  • Manage technical project associates that may be distributed across multiple sites
  • Support the adherence to the Five Principles
  • Support the development of engineering associates
  • Lead cross-functional teamwork

Mission Critical Competencies and Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

  • 10-15 years of experience in an comparable technical position - food, beverage, pharmaceutical or related industry preferable
  • In-Depth understanding of project management principals and general knowledge of engineering disciplines: Building, Infrastructure, Civil, Utilities, Process, Packaging, Electrical, Construction or Computer Services
  • In-depth understanding of functional engineering area of expertise. Strong leadership experience around construction safety, specifically in the area of civil, building construction, and utility system construction.
  • Team skills - high performance team experience
  • Action Oriented, Interpersonal Savvy, Communication Skills, Planning, Self-Development, Dealing with Ambiguity, Creativity, Innovation Management
