Job Title: Chief, Primary Care Division

Position Overview

The Alameda Health Medical Group is seeking a primary care physician leader to join the Department of Medicine at Alameda Health System (AHS) in the role of Primary Care Division Chief. The Division Chief reports directly to the Department Chair of Internal Medicine and supervises the clinical and academic pursuits of the Division.

Organizational Overview

AHS is an integrated public health system that spans 5 facilities, 4 ambulatory sites, and 800 beds providing primary, specialty, and Level 1 Trauma care to the residents of Alameda County, one of the most diverse counties in California. Highland Hospital, our flagship facility, is based in Oakland. We are a safety net system that is proud to serve our surrounding communities with safe, equitable, high-quality care. AHS’ mission is Caring, Healing, Teaching, Serving All.

AHS strives to provide culturally sensitive care to the diverse communities of the East Bay and has Wellness Centers in Oakland, Hayward, and Newark. The Primary Care Division at Highland focuses on providing care at the Highland Wellness Center and is the main ambulatory medicine teaching site for the internal medicine residency program. The Highland Division of Primary Care is home to a group of academic general internists who provide primary care in the Adult Medicine Clinic at the Highland Wellness Center. The Division also houses the primary care arm of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. The Division is particularly committed to addressing inequities in health and health care due to racism, xenophobia, and other systemic injustices.

The Adult Medicine Clinic is a part of the Highland Wellness Center and is the flagship academic primary care clinic of our system, caring for over 8,000 empaneled patients annually through 33,000 visits per year. With attention to team-based care, the clinic offers robust integrated behavioral health services, nurse and pharmacist visits for chronic disease management, and a primary care addiction treatment team.

Alameda Health Medical Group (AHMG) is a multispecialty entity that supports the majority of physicians who staff Alameda Health System. We recently formed in July 2020 from two prior medical groups, producing a practitioner base that spans from new residency graduates to tenured master clinicians who have been at AHS for more than 30 years. Our group is defined by values including inclusivity, engagement, patient advocacy, leadership development and physician wellness. We take an active anti-racism stance to our work.
