This is a direct-hire W2 employee position with benefits (medical/dental/vision insurance, paid vacation, 401k plan with employer match).

Working remotely is not a problem however we strongly prefer to hire someone in the Portland, OR, Cleveland, OH or Greater Boston / Hyannis, MA areas because we have offices and engineering teams in those locations. There will be a few times per year when work must be done onsite. 10% travel to customer sites, industry events, etc.

We are seeking an exceptional Power Engineer to help lead the design and implementation of our present and next generation residential microgrid product. The Power Engineer will assist in the development of microgrid solutions and integration of compliance, electrical and safety standards. A successful candidate should be capable of providing a high level of technical competence in the following areas: power systems and protection design, research and development to support new standards development, and troubleshooting. Competence inthe following professional skills is also paramount for the successful candidate: peerleadership,oral communication skills, written work with a team to develop protection, control, automation,and integration standards and provide application guidance.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Design, integrate, test, and commission microgrids and energy solutions for residential, commercial and utility customers
  • Preparation of one-lines, AC & DC elementary drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Preparation and review of power enclosure layouts
  • Evaluate specifications and product requirements
  • Research and prepare technical specifications for electrical generation, protection and controlequipment
  • Interpretation, review and approval of vendor documents and drawings
  • Work closely with the software design team during scope development and design process
  • Occasionally provide construction coordination and support with field personnel
  • Expected to be capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting expecteddeadlines
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes
  • Support live customer systems using knowledge of power systems and application functionality with clear, logical thought processes
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry standards and trends
  • Demonstrate awareness of competing and disruptive technologies
  • Contribute to proposals for businesses as well as government agencies

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS POSITION

  • BS (required) or MS (preferred) from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering including completion ofone or more Power Systems courses
  • Experience with microgrid components including storage, inverters, solar and control
  • Experience with power electronics based distributed generation and energy storage
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Efficient time management — handle multiple projects simultaneously including prioritizing,organizing, and planning work effectively to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to multitask on several projects in parallel in a fast-paced environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years work experience (10 years preferred, compensation will reflect that) related to electrical power systems design and commercial / large residential microgrid installation and commissioning
  • Experience with alternative energy and distributed generation, e.g. solar photovoltaic (PV), fuel cells, combinedheat and power applications
  • Experience with control algorithms for power or energy systems
  • Knowledge of power distribution design
  • Familiarity with compliance standards and codes: IEEE, UL, NEC
  • Experience developing standards or application documents for majorprojects
  • PE certification or ability to obtain PE certification
  • Experience in the electric utility industry
  • Experience with product engineering, systems engineering, reliabilityengineering, failure analysis,systems test engineering, or product quality engineering
  • Experience with electrical modeling software such as HOMER simulation tool in developingmodels and using results to develop recommendations for energy storage sizing
