Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Applied Mathematics and Computational Research Division has an opening for a Post Baccalaureate Fellow to join the team.


In this exciting role, you will perform research in the field of scientific machine learning, assisting research staff in the applied mathematics and computational research division.


What You Will Do:

  • Train a neural network to represent the impact of basal hydrology which can hopefully emulate the dynamics of subglacial hydrology networks and potentially improve an adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) subglacial hydrology model developed at LBL.
  • Investigate the use of ML approaches for tackling some problems arising from sparse matrix computation, and for preconditioning for solving sparse systems of linear equations.

What is Required:

  • Bachelor degree.
  • Computer science or math background. Machine learning expertise. Coding experience in Python, C/C++, Matlab.
