We seek a full-time Policy Associate to join our Osborne Center for Justice Across Generations (OCJAG). The OCJAG is the policy arm of the Osborne Association, focusing on four areas: children and families affected by incarceration, aging in prison/ elder reentry, housing, and decarceration. OCJAG includes the New York Initiative for Children of Incarcerated Parents (NYCIP), dedicated to promoting the well-being of children whose parents are arrested or incarcerated. While an integral member of the OCJAG team, the Policy Associate will assist the NYCIP Director on various projects, focusing on implementing child-sensitive arrest practices in NYC and throughout NY State. The Policy Associate will also participate in broader discussions to develop organizational policy priorities and advocacy strategies.

The position will be hybrid, with in-office and remote work, including in-person meetings with external entities. Scheduling is subject to change.

Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with implementing safeguarding children of arrested parents protocols and practices in New York by meeting with various stakeholders including NYPD and other law enforcement agencies, City and State electeds and agencies, community-based organizations, and service providers.
  • Assist with developing and co-facilitating training for law enforcement and service provider audiences.
  • Assist in creating informational materials related to parental arrest and parental incarceration, such as training curricula and handouts, briefs, factsheets, presentations, and testimony.
  • Gather and stay abreast of related work across the state and country.
  • Assist the Director in various projects and efforts to engage and partner with young people affected by a parent’s arrest or incarceration, including working with and developing curricula for the Youth Action Council and supporting the See Us, Support Us Youth Team activities.
  • Track and monitor progress, generate reports, and complete required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in developing messaging and communication strategies, and participating in campaigns, to advance Osborne’s policy priorities, and local and state criminal legal systems reforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree preferred;

Experience:

  • At a minimum, 3 years experience providing services for and/or developing/implementing policies related to children and families or working in law enforcement.
  • Experience with project management and implementing multi-faceted projects/ initiatives is a plus.
  • Experience with training, public speaking, and facilitating meetings is preferred.

Related Skills or Knowledge:

  • Must have access to the internet for email communication and participation in virtual meetings
  • Proficient in Google Suite including creating presentations and flyers
  • basic knowledge of popular social media platforms
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the impact of ACEs, trauma, and effects of separation from a parent is a plus.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement practices, policies and procedures, and/or policy change is also a plus.
