The City of Sebastopol is seeking qualified candidates for the position of

POLICE SERGEANT

Salary: $94,958—$115,413 Annually

The Position: Under general direction of the Police Lieutenant, the Police Sergeant supervises directs and personally performs patrol, traffic control, investigations, and administrative duties. The position has direct supervision of all sworn, non-sworn and civilian personnel who are subordinate to them to ensure the efficient and orderly operation of the police department. The Sergeant is responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems, implementation of all appropriate aspects of police activity, as de- fined and related to the police profession.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abili- ties is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: A High School diploma (A.A. or A.S. Degree preferred).
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in police profession.
License and Certifications: Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate, Supervisory P.O.S.T. Certificate preferred.
Possession of valid California Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment and upon appointment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States (or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.)

Language Skills: The ability to speak and understand Spanish is highly desirable, but not required.

Background and Exam Process: Successful candidates will be required to undergo a standard Police Back- ground investigation including fingerprinting, polygraph exam. Psychological evaluation, and complete physi- cal exam with drug screening.

Compensation & Benefits
The starting salary will be commensurate with the experience, qualifications and skills of the successful candi- date and within the range of $7,913 - $9,618 Monthly. The City of Sebastopol provides an excellent comprehen- sive benefits package that includes the following:

• Uniform reimbursement: $1,000 for full-time sworn Police Officer per fiscal year
• New hire receives one-time payment of $800 for purchase of service firearm
