This recruitment and examination is being conducted to fill multiple Police Officer Trainee vacancies and may be used to fill future full-time vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list. The active status of this employment list will be at least one (1) year unless abolished sooner or extended beyond that date in accordance with the Civil Service Rules. This list may be used to fill positions at the Community Services Officer I/II level.
Ideal candidates for the Police Officer Trainee role will have a record of successfully demonstrating the following competencies:

- Documentation of a Basic Police Academy Certification within the last 3 years or proof of current enrollment in a Basic Police Academy.
- Copy of PELLETB T-SCORE of 48 or higher within the last 6 months.
- Ride with officers to observe and learn peace officer responsibilities and techniques.
- Operate police information equipment, including computer systems, teletypes and telephones to enter and research information at the direction of an Officer or police civilian.
- Assist in processing, packaging, labeling, storing and destroying property and evidence; may provide assistance with photocopies, files, indexes and locating police records and related paperwork.
- Perform errands for the department such as transporting information and paperwork to court and district attorney offices; perform related duties as assigned.

SELECTION PROCESS
- An Application Appraisal will be conducted to evaluate each candidates' supplemental questionnaire and will be evaluated for educational course work, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities that relate to this position. (Pass/Fail).
- Candidates who pass the Application Appraisal will be invited to a panel interview.
- The probationary period is the last phase of the selection process. Incumbents are required to establish a bona fide residence in compliance with agreed-to travel time (1 hour) by completion of the probationary period.
Candidates referred to the Police Department for a selection interview are required to sign authorization and release forms authorizing thorough background and reference checks. Failure to sign prescribed forms will result in the candidate not being considered further for that vacancy.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Possession of California Class "C" Driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Incumbents must be willing to work any shift, including night, evening, holiday and weekend shifts and must be willing to work scheduled and emergency overtime. Incumbents must wear and maintain a uniform. Incumbents are expected to maintain high moral character and integrity and demonstrate a high desire for self-improvement. Bilingual skills are desirable.
