General Summary

Under the supervision of a higher classified officer, regularly patrols assigned areas of the city to prevent crime, maintaining public safety and order by enforcing local, state, and federal laws and ordinances. Inkster officers also perform specialized police activity such as criminal investigations and undercover surveillance and juvenile cases. Officers respond to approx. 24k calls for service per year in the 6.25 square miles of Inkster.

APPLICANTS MUST AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION:

• Be 21 years of age or older
• U.S. Citizen
• High school diploma/GED
• Possess a valid Michigan Operator's license and meet minimum driving requirements.
• Possess the valid Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Certification
• Possess a clear criminal record
• Be able to push, pull, and lift various weights.

Pay Scale:

• Start $21.75
• End of Probation $23.04
• 6 months after probation $23.21
• 2 years $24.33
• 3 years $25.62
• 4 years $26.91
• Additional pay steps upon promotion to Detective, Sergeant, or Lieutenant

• Start $21.75
