Playground Monitor/Support Aides support the mission of the district by supervising students during the lunchtime program, on the playground during recess, and may occasionally provide classroom and clerical support.

Terms of Employment: 189 days per year, when school is in session. The current work schedule is 8:10 a.m.-2:50 p.m. on regular student attendance days, 9:10 a.m.-2:50 p.m. on late start days, and 8:10 a.m.-11:20 a.m. on early release days. The schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the district.
  • This position is covered by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • A valid CPR Card (or the ability to obtain a valid card) is required upon hire.
  • Selected candidates may undergo appropriate applicant testing prior to being offered an interview.
  • The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and clearance by Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (or medical/religious exemption) per the terms outlined by the Governor of Washington State is required.

Essential Functions:
  • Supervise the playground and/or cafeteria areas
  • Monitor student behaviors on all parts of the campus and make appropriate supervisory decisions
  • Supervise students during recess and lunchtime programs with direct responsibility for students well-being and safety during these times; maintains a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts
  • Report, without delay, the presence of any unauthorized or suspicious persons to the office
  • Perform the essential functions of the job while standing for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions
  • May occasionally provide classroom or clerical support for brief periods during the day when duties on the playground or in the cafeteria are complete
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, parents and community members
  • Ability to incorporate working knowledge of Board Policies E-1 to E-4 into daily practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent (48 semester/72 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university OR a minimum score of 461 on the ParaPro Assessment required
  • Proof of high school graduation or equivalent
  • A valid CPR card, or the ability to obtain a valid card upon hire, is required
  • Willingness and ability to complete professional development courses required by the State of Washington towards paraeducator certification
  • Regular attendance to be successful in the position
  • Ability to assist students in the restroom

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous volunteer or work experience in a K-8 educational setting preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, parents, staff and community members while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor and supporting an atmosphere of warmth, cooperation and service to others
  • Ability to treat all staff, students, parents, and community members with dignity and a high regard for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with peers and students
  • Strong self-initiative with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Punctual with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all district matters

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or stoop in order to attend to the student’s needs and to provide instruction
  • Some lifting may be required; ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds

Salary: $17.21 per hour after successful completion of a probationary period of 60 working days/480 hours of employment (whichever is less). The probationary rate of pay is $15.49 per hour.
