Production Technician Trainee (2300028) - Freeport, TX

The Production Technician is responsible for conducting daily activities related to plant operations such as:

Operating compressors, pumps, reactors, heat exchangers, steam boilers, valves, tanks, pressure vessels, instrument control systems, forklifts, hoists, flare systems, scales, lab testing equipment, computers, and other associated manufacturing equipment.

  • Operations of the plant includes controlling flows, pressures, reactions, temperatures, makeup of solutions from batch sheets and formula cards, transfer of solutions/batches, loading/unloading chemicals to and from tanks, trucks, and rail cars.
  • Handling of various hazardous chemicals.
  • Identifying and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Thorough understanding of the operation and capabilities of the equipment in their area.
  • Cross training in additional production areas and supporting other members of the team in achieving a task or solving a problem.
  • Disassembling and cleaning plant equipment, piping and pressure vessels.
  • Recognize and eliminate safety hazards.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment by adhering to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements while planning and executing a job.
  • Support and continually apply all Quality Improvement, Safety, Ecology, and Legal Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Recognizing and eliminating safety hazards.
  • Accept and demonstrate personal accountability for EHS performance.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment by adhering to EHS requirements while planning and executing a job.
  • Performing all necessary production/testing to ensure that product meets product specifications and tolerances for in-process product and release specifications for shipment of the product.
  • Effectively work with minimal supervision.
  • Operating and managing (troubleshoot) their respective areas and making safe, prompt, and effective decisions.
  • Occasionally handle drums and drum dollies.
  • Additional duties are designated by the respective areas.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Qualifications – NOTE: Not all positions are eligible for cross-regional relocation/work authorization. Cross regional is defined as movement between countries (e.g. Canada to U.S.).

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years of applicable military experience – OR 3 years of chemical plant manufacturing experience - OR an Associate’s Degree in a Chemical Technology Program.
  • Note: Applicable military experience would be technical experience relating to maintenance or troubleshooting; or experience requiring the buildup / teardown of facilities, equipment or weapon systems. More than 50% of the work to be performed outdoors.
  • Must be eligible to obtain TWIC if needed in the future
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical knowledge of equipment breakdown including disassembling of piping and pressure vessels associated in a chemical plant environment.
  • Working knowledge of plant chemical equipment and processes, testing, and computer skills obtained through training and on-the-job experience.
