The Plant Controller role will report to the Vice President of Operations Big Ass Fans (BAF) and will be responsible for most things finance in our manufacturing operations. Responsibilities

  • Lead as a financial business partner to help understand the business challenges and leverage financial understanding to develop and analyze solutions that allow the team to meet or exceed goals.
  • Prepare and communicate monthly and quarterly reports which summarize business activity and drivers of financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Support the operational excellence strategy by working closely with the organization on process improvements, KPIs, business case modeling, and analysis.
  • Support Operations and the organization to achieve unit and Divisional goals and objectives, including the annual operating plan, long-range strategic plan, and capital investments.
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting processes with strong internal controls to ensure accurate and timely reporting that adheres to internal policies, audit requirements, and GAAP.
  • Provide operational analysis to identify problems/opportunities, recommend solutions and facilitate accurate decisions and strategies. Examples include 80/20 analysis, price/cost analysis, etc.
  • Measurement of operational performance of our manufacturing operations, with variance analysis performed monthly and ad hoc throughout the month; deep dive into the drivers of variances in gross margin across the business to help improve performance.
  • Responsible for developing standard costs for the group and rolling them properly and accurately.
  • Lead the annual inventory and cycle count processes to achieve inventory goals.
  • Development and maintenance of operations finance-related reserve policies (e.g., slow-moving, obsolete, etc).
  • Work with the operations teams to connect the operational and financial performance of the business.
  • Track cost savings activities across the business and understand how those should be manifesting themselves in the business results; help the group identify additional savings.
  • Play an active part in the SIOP process, understanding how changes in the sales forecast will impact operational/financial metrics.
  • Drive deep insight into the costs of the business to help create product line P&Ls.
  • Help drive the capital expenditure process.
  • Make presentations and do ad hoc analyses for the senior leadership of the business.

Requirements

  • Living in, or willing to move to, the Lexington, KY area
  • Undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • 5+ years of previous experience with a good portion of that in a manufacturing environment
  • Must understand the concepts underlying standard costing, the various types of variances that can be seen in manufacturing, capitalized variances, and other very nuanced concepts of the manufacturing accounting space – if you don’t already understand this, this is likely not your job (but if you still think you’re a Rock Star, send us your resume anyway – we’re always looking for talent!)
  • Superior, hands-on modeling skills and adeptness with Excel – the bucks stop with you in terms of the accuracy and quality of the output –you need to be a doer and not a delegator
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail – you maintain your task list tightly and rarely miss deadlines
  • High bandwidth being able to manage multiple stakeholders at once
  • Strong work ethic – we work hard and play hard – and expect the same from those who join the team
