POSITION DESCRIPTION :


This position will serve as a care member of the Bureau for Public Health Leadership Team and participates in preparedness. Will provide leadership, mentoring and final medical authority for all medical aspects for WVOEMS. Will coordinate and chair the Medical Policy Care Committee (MPCC). Appoint EMS Regional Medical Directors as necessary. Ensure Regional Medical Directors are adequately trained, knowledgeable and skilled for purposes of sharing leadership responsibility and assuming leadership role as necessary in their respective regions. Work with Regional/Agency Medical Directors to ensure medical direction is consistently monitored, and improvements sought. Provide leadership to EMS staff. Review and make recommendations to the WVOEMS Director regarding designation of trauma centers and for categorization of Statewide Stemi and Stroke centers. Assist with the coordination of incident response and management activity with broader State Homeland Security and Emergency Management actions in association with the State Emergency Operation Center. Assist WVOEMS Director with managing and overseeing EMS at both the state and local agencies to continually improve the quality of prehospital care, have the technical ability to evaluate the provision and scope of EMS services in the State, particularly rural areas, and work to promote the most appropriate services and service levels. Assist in the oversight over all investigations/complaints brought about on the WV EMS prehospital providers, EMS agencies and/or OEMS. Knowledge of all current legislative rules, code, update processes, and implementation of policies in the area of assignment. Must be Board certified in Emergency Medicine. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy as evidenced by a temporary or permanent license to practice in the State of West Virginia.

Experience: Two years of experience in the practice of medicine or osteopathy which can include experience in a post-graduate training program.

Substitution: A Master's degree in public health, health administration, hospital administration, public or business administration may substitute for the required experience.
