- Collects specimens - primarily blood specimens - on patients of all ages by venipuncture and capillary methods, paying close attention to patient safety, comfort, and accuracy of information
- Attention must be paid to collecting specimens appropriate for the tests ordered and to appropriate blood amounts, especially considering the patient's size, condition, and the need to minimize discomfort to the employee.
- Distributes specimens to the correct laboratory section as assigned.
- Performs all associated paperwork or computer entry to complete specimen collection.
- Uses information systems as required for employee and laboratory information.
- Accurately records information as assigned (e.g., completion of outside laboratory requisitions, etc.)
- Courteously and professionally provides "reception" services, e.g., telephone coverage, meeting and greeting customers, visitors, employees, etc. Follows company customer service guidelines.
- Picks up and delivers specimens, reagents, etc., as assigned.
- Reviews inventory of lab supplies, informing supervisor or designee and ordering supplies as appropriate.
- Checks expiration dates as required, informing supervisor or designee if problems develop (such as shipments of lab supplies with concise expiration dates).
- Follows laboratory section inventory procedures (e.g., recording date received, a condition when received, checking order forms, invoices, etc.)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Phlebotomy Certification
- 1+ years of home healthcare experience
- 1+ years of phlebotomy experience
- Ability to work flexible schedules as needed.
