The Pharmacy Technician II performs duties to ensure the quality of products and proper functioning of equipment while working within the limitations of standard methods and procedures. May participate in preparation and dispensing of sterile products under direct pharmacist supervision, if allowed by the Board of Pharmacy.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 May take orders for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals from customers and enter order information into computer system, where allowed by Board of Pharmacy regulations; Follow Board of Pharmacy regulations related to technician training/certification/registration or other credentialing;
 May prepare or dispense sterile radiopharmaceutical products under the direct supervision of authorized nuclear pharmacist, where permitted by Board of Pharmacy regulations upon completion of training and validation of aseptic technique and other competencies outlined by Board of Pharmacy and internal company policy;
 May perform quality assurance testing of instrumentation or quality control of radiopharmaceutical products under the direction of the authorized nuclear pharmacist and/or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO); Tests may include thin layer chromatography, survey meter operational checks, MCA/SCA operational checks, area wipes and surveys or other health physics related tasks;
 May complete bill of lading, labeling and DOT documentation pertaining to the packaging and shipping of radiopharmaceutical doses, pursuant to function-specific DOT Hazardous Materials (Haz Mat) training;
 Guide and assist drivers/delivery team as needed; determine delivery routing and scheduling; May operate vehicle to deliver products to hospitals, clinics, and other facilities as directed, pursuant to function specific DOT Haz Mat training; Address inquiries relating to delivery/routing from nuclear medicine customers;
 Conduct wipes and surveys using appropriate instrumentation such as portable survey meter, multichannel or single channel analyzer (MCA/SCA);
 May participate in return and disposal of spent radiopharmaceutical doses into appropriate biohazard sharps containers for decay-in-storage, pursuant to bloodborne pathogens training;
 May participate in cleaning of unit dose containers (pigs) upon return from the nuclear medicine department prior to their return to active stock for use in dispensing;
 May assist in activities to prepare products for delivery, including surveying, packing, wrapping and completing necessary DOT paperwork, shipment labeling, and bill of lading;
 Obtain knowledge of radiation safety; Remain knowledgeable of current organizational, state and federal guidelines pertaining to the transportation and handling of radioactive materials;
 Assist to maintain the organization and cleanliness of the lab pursuant to USP 797 cleaning policies and procedures; May set up packages for next day or shift; Clean hood and dose preparation areas if directed by pharmacist on duty
 Receive packages and restock inventory; May participate in inventory management and place orders for products under the direction of the authorized nuclear pharmacist or RSO;
 Perform or assist with operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements; Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies;
 Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition; May handle laboratory chemicals when performing QC with appropriate attention to following procedures and wearing protective garb;
 Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines;
 Perform other related duties as assigned;

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Syringes, small test tubes, single channel analyzer, dose calibrators, Geiger counter, and survey
meters, company vehicle

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 High School Diploma or equivalent;
 1+ years experience in medical environment preferred;
 Certified pharmacy technician preferred
 Achieves and maintains appropriate licensure/certification as required by Board of Pharmacy; Must complete CE or retraining as required by Board of Pharmacy;
 Basic math skills, including decimals and fractions, where interpretation is required;
 Strong organizational skills along with effective time management skills;
 Strong verbal and written communication skills;
 Customer focused; team oriented;

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND/OR VISUAL DEMAND:
Continuous mental and visual attention required to operate vehicle and handle radioactive material involving repetitive or diversified work requiring constant alertness or activity. Light physical effort required to continuously move, lift and deliver containers and boxes, which is equivalent to lifting or moving negligible weight material up to 50lbs. Ability to operate vehicle
and maintain a valid driver’s license. Ability to work long and unusual hours to include third shift, weekends and holidays.

The position responsibilities are primarily carried out in a nuclear pharmacy.
