Job Description:

The resident is a participant in a system training program. The purpose of the residency is to develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide pharmaceutical care, including the provision of rational pharmacotherapy and the delivery of appropriate product related services to patients.

Scope

This individual will function as a licensed pharmacist, and as such will have the responsibility of supervising pharmacy interns and pharmacy technicians, and occasionally undergraduate pharmacy students through the professional experiential program.

Job Essentials

Practice Foundation Skills - This position is responsible for communicating effectively when speaking or writing. It is important the Pharmacy Practice Management Resident understands and develops the network of individuals and organizations with which the pharmacy leader must interact in order to achieve pharmacy's missions. This individual must demonstrate ethical conduct in all activities related to pharmacy practice, and is responsible to understand and follow all requirements of legal, regulatory, and accrediting agencies affecting pharmacy operations.
Leadership Development - This individual is responsible for participating in the formulation, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures that support accomplishing pharmacy's mission. This individual is responsible to design an approach that works within the system's interdisciplinary medication use policy model that assures accomplishing both the system and pharmacy mission and strategic goals.
Planning - This position will be responsible for developing skills in financial management, staffing and staff development, information management, quality improvement, and clinical programs.
Implementation - This individual will be responsible for participating in pharmacy's financial management system and economic analyses. This financial management system must meet the needs of pharmacy (operations and clinical) and also meet the needs of finance and budgeting.
Information Management - This individual will be involved in the development, implementation, and/or management of medication information. It is the responsibility of this individual to facilitate information that will meet the needs of clinicians, financial departments, and regulatory requirements within an integrated healthcare network.
Monitoring - It is the responsibility of this individual to participate in the P&T processes, and to develop, monitor and refine the formulary, medication use policies, and clinical guidelines involving medication use. Responsibilities include both development and monitoring after implementation with requisite follow-up.
Staff Management and Leadership - It is the responsibility of this individual to develop skills in team building, staff management, constructive discipline processes, employee satisfaction and employee engagement, professional development, performance evaluation, and mentoring of all staff.
Duties of a Clinical Pharmacist - it is the responsibility of this individual to develop and maintain competency in all aspects of clinical pharmacy practice. This will involve direct patient care, clinical educational presentations, rounding, and communication skills with all members of the healthcare team.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy (degree will be verified)
  • Obtains licensure as a pharmacist by state in which one practices within the timeframe outlined in the Intermountain Pharmacy Residency Manual.
  • Obtains controlled substance licensure within the timeframe outlined in the Intermountain Pharmacy Residency Manual.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of starting residency.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of starting residency.
  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy experience.
