We are seeking a highly motivated, positive, enthusiastic, patient focused Pharmacist In Charge to join our dynamic and fast growing retail pharmaceutical team.

JOB SUMMARY

The Pharmacist In Charge is responsible for managing and overseeing the day to day pharmacy operations to include but is not limited to production, compounding, and apportioning of medicines in the retail pharmacy, and supervision of technical and professional personnel.

In addition, this role is responsible for training, security, inventory, and ensuring that all personnel deliver high standards of customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the pharmacy program, direct, review, maintain, and rectify pharmacy operating procedures to include safety and security processes.
  • Responsible for the execution of opening and closing activities; either directly, or through delegation to a staff pharmacist. Ensuring that strict procedures are followed around the pharmacy facility.
  • Represent the pharmacy facility in all local and federal regulatory audits, visits, and communication.
  • Directly supervise staff pharmacists.
  • Render assistance to technical and professional personnel in mixing, compounding, and dispensing of various medications utilized by and sold to patients.
  • Develop, evaluate, and update operational policies and procedures and/or SOP’s.
  • Maintain compliance with all local and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Answer clinical questions from health professionals and provide product information.
  • Support order verification within computer order processing queue to ensure facility and product accuracy.
  • Review of all prescription batch records and associated documentation verification.
  • Ensuring safe work environments, enforcing operational discipline, and monitoring aseptic behaviors.
  • Efficiently utilize tools and metrics (KPI’s) to monitor staff productivity, deliverables, timelines, and quality of work product to adjust staffing levels and operational processes as needed to ensure operational effectiveness and prepare annual performance evaluation on all employees in a prompt manner.
  • Oversee the organization of inventories, responsible for the inventory management, account for all supplies needed.
  • Familiarize self with current and new pharmaceutical preparations prescribed for utilization by patients to be able to render assistance to prescribing physicians.
  • Set up and maintain a certified system of record keeping and billing procedures in accordance with local and federal regulations.
  • Establish and support pharmacy services in line with local and federal requirements.
  • Evaluate and improve manual of Policy and Procedure every year.
  • Institute and implement enhancement of quality for the business unit.
  • In coordination with Human Resources, recruit, orient, supervise, and discipline unit personnel when necessary.
  • Plan, administer, organize, and successfully implement all activities in relation to the pharmacy operation, to include personnel scheduling.
  • Provide guidance on medications and prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs in line with local and federal regulations.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or bachelor’s degree of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited pharmacy program is required
  • Current, valid license from the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX)
  • Current, valid registration to practice as a pharmacist on Guam, from the Guam Board of Examiners for Pharmacy (GBEP)
  • The Pharmacist in Charge shall maintain at all times a pharmacist license in Guam that is in good standing and current.
  • 4-5 years pharmacy experience and a good understanding of pharmacy quality and compliance requirements.
  • 2-5 years management experience; with at least 3 direct/indirect reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of state/local and federal laws, rules, and regulations surrounding pharmacy practices and patient safety.
  • Proven effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience interpreting compliance requirements and regulations is required.
  • Knowledge of DEA, FDA and local regulations pertaining to preparation and handling of controlled substances.
  • Must pass Guam’s Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE)
  • Must clear an OIG Exclusions Search
  • Must be able to deliver exceptional customer service while under extreme pressure
  • Must demonstrate the ability to remain personable and professional dealing with personnel and customers
  • Must be able to communicate professionally verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, twist and lean up to 90% of the time
  • May be seated for long periods of time utilizing office equipment such as a calculator, cash register and computer and may be required to count, pinch, pick, write and lift up to 30 lbs.
