Amistad is a peer support-based agency that works alongside people who face challenges related to substance use, trauma, homelessness, hunger, and poverty. Our programming includes community centers, food, harm reduction supports, recovery residences, supported housing, street outreach, and peer support within institutional settings.

The Peer Specialist works in the Peer Support Program which operates at Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta. The Peer Specialist will be responsible for working on the treatment units at Riverview. The goal of the program is to be integrated into all aspects of peer care and hospital operations. The qualified individual will provide advocacy and strive to amplify the voices of peers, while serving as an example of recovery. We are seeking to fill (2) full-time positions.

Qualifications include:

· Successful completion of Certified Intentional Peer Support training.

- Current CIPS Certification or Provisional CIPS Certification

· Ability to work 40 hours (Monday-Friday 8:00-4:00)

· A demonstrated history of recovery

· Sound understanding of and commitment to peer support principles

· Sufficient understanding of mental health practices to allow comfort in dealing with both traditional and non-traditional providers

· Excellent people skills

· Time-management skills

· A willingness to share personal recovery experiences as appropriate

· A history of dependability in recent work or volunteer service

· Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills

· Reliability and personal accountability

Responsibilities include:

  • Acting in a calm, gentle manner and treat all peers and professionals alike with dignity and respect
  • Sharing personal strengths and skills as well as the hope that recovery is possible for everyone
  • Encouraging others to take personal responsibility for their own wellness and recovery
  • Helping peers advocate for their own needs and wants
  • Maintaining a high level of respect for individuals' confidentiality
  • Providing support in a manner consistent with peer principles
  • Participating in trainings developed for Peer Specialists
  • Participating in Riverview Psychiatric Center orientation and all mandatory trainings
  • Participating in regular supervision with the Peer Services Director
  • Maintaining records as needed for proper documentation and quality assurance tracking
  • Participating in regular staff and team meetings
  • Refer to the supervisor with any questions or concerns
  • Administering peer satisfaction surveys at time of discharge
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the program

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 per hour
