Job Summary
The Peer Specialist Lead will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Arkansas Blue Cross Peer Recovery Assistance Program by consulting with and coordinating with Case Management, Social Work, Corporate Medical Directors, Pharmacy, Legal, and more. The Peer Specialist will also work directly with internal teams to promote whole person care (case management, social work, pharmacy, medical management, etc.). The Lead is expected to present the program to various internal management leaders and track the outcome of the program. At times, the Lead will be called on to discuss the program externally with clients of Arkansas Blue Cross, business leaders, and other medical professionals. The Peer Specialist Lead will also build bridges and connections with community support services to raise awareness of how Arkansas Blue Cross is supporting members who are willing to engage in the Peer Recovery Assistance Program. In addition to setting up and managing the overall program, the Lead will also function periodically as a direct role model to members demonstrating expertise in personal recovery and use of coping skills, will serve as a consumer advocate, and provide consumer information and peer support for members. The peer specialist performs a range of tasks to engage, motivate and inspire members to participate in their recovery, regain independence within the community and promote optimal wellness.
Requirements
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Possess one of the three Peer Support Certifications (PR, APR, PRPS) through the Arkansas Peer Specialist Program at the time of application required. Must maintain/uphold the certification during employment.
Peer Recovery Peer Supervisor Certification required. Must maintain/uphold the certification during employment.
Valid unrestricted driver’s license that facilitates travel across the state required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in peer support.
Minimum one (1) year experience in health care services setting.
Minimum six (6) months’ experience at or above the core certification level (Core, Advanced or Supervisor).
Experience working with computers and basic Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Knowledge of the Recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes.
Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance use disorders.
Knowledge of community resources necessary for independent living and ability to teach those skills to other individuals with substance use disorder.
Knowledge of how to access and utilize recovery support and educational groups.

Responsibilities
Acts as an educational resource on substance use disorder and recovery for the enterprise. Acts as the Subject Matter Expert for all things in the Peer Recovery Program., Assists members in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps he/she needs to take to achieve personal goals and self-directed recovery., Assists members living outside the immediate local community with identifying and utilizing Peer Recovery resources available within their local community., Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams as a member advocate in discharge planning education, resolution of barriers, and service transitions., Develops and maintains tracking measures to document the outcomes of the program., Empowers members through developing life skills and combating stigma through advocacy and recovery., Functions as a role model and advocate to members who have a substance use disorder. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies., Identifies opportunities for engagement of members in forming a supportive, peer recovery network. Assists members in locating and joining local recovery support groups., Initiates and maintains contact with assigned members to determine members’ engagement and response to services. Utilizes tools to assist members in creating their wellness and recovery plans., Manages & oversees the internal Peer Specialist(s) and their interactions with members., Other duties as assigned., Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Arkansas Blue Cross Peer Recovery Assistance Program and continues the development and refinement of the Arkansas Blue Cross Peer Recovery Assistance Program. , Participates on various committees and workgroups to promote the Peer Recovery Program., Provides consultative services on the best way to integrate the Peer Recovery Program into other population health programs at Arkansas Blue Cross., Provides treatment and recovery resources, in addition to peer support services for members. Serves as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for recovery-based services to assist the members in daily living.

This position is identified as level three (3). This position must ensure the security and confidentiality of records and information to prevent substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to any individual on whom information is maintained. The integrity of information must be maintained as outlined in the company Administrative Manual.
Segregation of Duties
Segregation of duties will be used to ensure that errors or irregularities are prevented or detected on a timely basis by employees in the normal course of business. This position must adhere to the segregation of duties guidelines in the Administrative Manual.
