Sunrise Services, Inc. is seeking a Peer Counselor to join our Expanded Community Services team! This is an outreach position and some travel throughout Snohomish county will be required.

About the Program:

The Expanded Community Services (ECS) program works with adults who live in residential facilities (adult family homes, assisted living, and skilled nursing facilities) who present with behavioral health issues, physical health problems and challenging behaviors. Provide in-depth assessments of clients, their behaviors and work with them and their caregivers to resolve conflicts and stabilize their living situations.

General Responsibilities: Provide services to ECS clients under the supervision of the ECS/SNF Lead and ECS/GTP Program Coordinator. These services will be provided in the context of a multi-disciplinary team to clients with mental health issues. Peer counselor will have knowledge of the recovery and rehabilitation process, geriatrics and mental health in the long-term care setting.

Essential Functions: (Tasks, Responsibilities, and Competencies. May not include all duties of this job)

  • Report directly to the ECS SNF Lead to coordinate client services and obtain authorization for frequency of visits weekly.
  • Provide evidence-based practice recovery model services to clients in the Mental Health program such as:
  • Support ECS clients in the community and in participating in activities of interest.
  • Facilitate activities that promote socialization and the development of natural supports.
  • Cultivate the ability of clients to make informed independent choices and set goals.
  • Facilitate or provide Mental Health clients with support and information.
  • Conduct and report on surveys of consumer/peers/clients to assure consumer satisfaction and good customer services of Sunrise.
  • Lead and develop groups for peers who qualify for services at Sunrise.
  • Assist other Mental Health team members in formulating treatment goals within the team process in which each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized and respected.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with providers to ensure delivery of services.
  • Prompt, accurate and complete documentation of all services provided within 48 hours of service.
  • Strict adherence to all local, state, and federal guidelines regarding mental health services in addition to all of Sunrise policies and procedures.
  • Write progress notes documenting Mental Health clients progress towards their goals as related to Peer support services.
  • Provide Peer counseling and support to validate clients’ experience, and to provide guidance and encouragement to take responsibility and actively participate in their own recovery. Serve as a mentor to clients to promote hope and empowerment.
  • Provide expertise and consultation to the entire team concerning clients’ experiences on symptoms of mental illness and clients’ experiences of recovery.
  • Support, encourage, and facilitate the implementation of the recovery model.
  • Communicate client satisfaction and quality of service feedback to clinical staff and the Sunrise Mental Health Service organization as indicated and appropriate.
  • Attend training as required by Sunrise.
  • Maintain all licenses and certifications required for this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience)

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: One year experience in Mental Health or related field
  • Licensure/Certification: Certified Peer Counselor, Agency Affiliated Counselor License
  • Other Considerations:
  • DSHS background clearance required.
  • Current valid Washington State Driver’s License and personal vehicle.
  • Auto insurance and acceptable driving record.
  • Skill using Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Flexible.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in challenging dynamic situations including behavioral issues.
  • Skill in reading, synthesizing, and acting upon multifaceted information.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the following: Rehabilitation and recovery.
  • Mental illnesses and effective strategies for dealing with its effects.Community resources.

Compensation:

  • Pay range: $20 - $21.22/hour
  • Wages are determined by applicable industry experience, education, and certifications/licensure.

Schedule:

M – F, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
