Supplemental Information
Hourly Range: - $20.00 - $30.00/HR ($41,600 - $62,400 annually) (DOE)

Qualifications

Who should apply?

  • Washington State Certified Peer Specialist with at least two years’ experience working as a peer.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner as a team member with Hospital staff, CIHS staff, and program participants.
  • Ability to meet timely documentation requirements.
  • Enthusiasm for peer support and the belief that recovery is possible.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Some of what you will do:

  • Be mindful of the ethics, boundary, power and control issues unique to Peer Specialists.
  • Intentionally share your recovery story as appropriate to assist service recipients, providing hope and help in changing patterns and behaviors.
  • Set mutually acceptable boundaries with program participants.
  • Be able to assist participants with constructing their own wellness or recovery plan.
  • Work with participants from a strength-based perspective and communicating that strengths-based perspective to others.
  • Attempt to engage individuals who are reluctant to engage with hospital staff in planning their discharge.
  • Work with hospital staff and the hospital liaisons to identify potential participants for engagement and discharge planning activities.
  • Develop relationships of trust with program participants. Function as a role model, peer support, a mentor, a teacher, an advocate, and an ally as he or she communicates hope and encouragement.
  • Once a participant is discharged from the hospital, offer assistance with independent living skills, coping skills and community adjustment skills. Maintain the relationship with the participant, even though the participant will be enrolled in outpatient services.
  • At any given time, work with six to twelve (6-12) program participants. Prior to hospital discharge, the majority of the work will be inside the state hospitals; post-discharge the work activities for discharged consumers will be in the community.
