Predominantly focused on military manufacturing and government contracts, Patten produces cutting edge inflatable lifesaving equipment. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?


The General Maintenance and Repair Tech position works under general supervision to perform general maintenance and skilled work in minor electrical, Heating, Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, plumbing maintenance, and light machinery; assists with other trade specialties. The position is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as assigned.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following
  • Performs skilled building maintenance work in light electrical, electronics, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation Air Conditioning), carpentry, plumbing, and specialty systems
  • Reviews work orders, identifies material and equipment needs for each assigned project, troubleshoots facility and maintenance issues, and resolves problems with cost‐effective solutions.
  • Performs repairs, preventive maintenance, and component replacement on plumbing, electrical, security, mechanical systems, and facility systems.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs within the scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
  • Maintains records of services performed, and time and material costs.
  • Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition, reports problems and emergency situations.
  • Inspects facilities and identifies operational problems and maintenance issues; verifies that facilities are clean, safe, secure, and in compliance with state and Federal regulations and FMD standards.
  • May assists in training staff in proper methods and procedures.
  • Evaluates FMD operations and building management systems, and recommend system improvements, and environmentally responsible and resource‐efficient building management techniques.
  • Supports the relationship between the Patten Companies and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with vendors, visitors, and staff; promotes the
  • Company goals and priorities, and complies with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work‐related issues and Company information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE)

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Five years of directly related maintenance experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE)
Knowledge of:

  • Company policies and procedures.
  • Hand and power tools, equipment, materials, methods, and procedures used to repair, troubleshoot, diagnose, build, and ground maintenance.
  • Local, state, and Federal building codes and related standards and regulations.
  • Federal and state safety rules and regulations, including OSHA requirements.
  • Techniques for the use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (formerly
    SDSs or Material Safety Data Sheets) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
  • Environmentally responsible and resource‐effective building maintenance techniques; and
  • Operation, care, maintenance, repair, and safety standards for facilities management systems and
    equipment.

Skill in:

  • Operating and maintaining tools, equipment, and materials in a safe and effective manner.
  • Identifying and evaluating unsafe conditions and mechanical issues.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining electromechanical, HVAC, power, security, fire suppression, water treatment, plumbing, and specialty equipment and components.
  • Making operating adjustments and repairs to building system components and equipment.
  • Reading designs, estimates, plans, and specifications for building systems and projects.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Planning and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Estimating time, labor, and material requirements for projects.
  • Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Using a computer and related software applications; and
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co‐workers and others.

Ability to:

  • Estimate the time and cost of the repairs.
  • Perform small equipment/engine repair and maintenance, including troubleshooting for minor repairs.
  • Determine mechanical repair needs.
  • Prepare and maintain all related records and reports
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‐workers, supervisors, vendors, clients, and the public.
  • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work assignments.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and standing procedures.
  • Interpret and apply codes, statutes and policies, and procedures; and complete OSHA/Safety training as required.
