Job Title: Patient Care Aide
Department: Nursing
Report To: Licensed Practical Nurse/Director of Resident Care
FLSA status: Non-Exempt
The Resident Care Technician is responsible for the direct care of residents by following the individual service plan, treating each resident with respect and dignity, recognizing individual needs and encouraging independence.
Duties and Responsibilities Include The Following:
- Assists resident with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing,
grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities and meals according to the individual service plan. Allows and encourages residents to do as much of their own care as possible. Assist with serving meals to residents in the dining room or apartments.
Encourage residents to eat a proper diet and take adequate fluids while respecting the resident's right to free choice. Records and reports changes in residents' eating habits to the supervisor.
- Initiates and participates in leisure activities provided for residents as described in the activity calendar. Encourages residents to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs and to develop friendships with other residents.
- Observes and documents the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the supervisor.
- Assist residents with supervision of self administration of medications.
- Assist residents with ordering of their medications. This includes but not limited to reorders and new prescriptions, as well as OTC medications.
- Maintains a clean, safe and orderly environment for the residents. Performs general daily housekeeping duties.
- Responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance, including emergency pull cords, telephone calls, and requests from family and friends.
- Follows proper procedures in emergency situations, obtaining additional
assistance if necessary. * Knows location of each resident, reminds them to sign out when they leave the building. Notifies the supervisor immediately if unable to locate a resident.
- Assist with residents' doctor appointments when requested by the Director of Resident Care or Executive Director.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; and three to six
months related experience and/or training in direct service with older adults; or
equivalent combination of education and experience. CNA preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, residents' families, and other employees of the community. Ability to effectively communicate in English.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 1 O's and
lOO's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to car y out detailed but uninvolved
written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete
variables in standardized situations. Uses good judgment in emergency situations, and gets help when needed.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Basic CPR/First Aid training. Certification in the Supervision of Self Administration of Medication preferred.

New Hires will receive a $500 Signing Bonus after 90 days of employment. Employees that do not miss a shift will receive a $100 per quarter.
