DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Patient Access Manager, the Patient Access Rep. is responsible for registration duties in the clinical services area. Typical duties include greeting and directing patients/visitors/staff, registration completion, authorization, and billing verification, collect payment fees, operate CRT to gain or input patient information.

Works closely with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance payors and other external sources to assist families in obtaining healthcare and financial services. Responsible for the patient admission, registration and verification of insurance.

Duties include establish medical record, obtain demographics, insurance payor notification, obtain authorization, account analysis, obtain primary care and referring physician information. Cash collection. Process patient identification/armband at the time of admission. Escort patient to room. Obtain all necessary admission forms per TJC requirements. Duties may be performed in person or by phone. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three (3) years previous admissions/registration experience in a large, complex healthcare setting.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance verification, registration, and medical terminology.

  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, including patients, visitors, clinical and support staff.

  • Possesses superb customer service skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Highly proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of third party payors.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $51,532 - $64,039 Annually

The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
